Well, after reading some additional on-line game reviews, plus watching several Youtube videos by DasTactic, I finally decided to play using only the base game plus the Crusade DLC for my post-Tutorial games. Got part-way through my first regular game, and was having lots of fun cranking out explorer ships to use for snagging artifacts for bonus money. I bought this game a couple of days ago, since it looked very interesting, it had good on-line reviews, and was turn-based. I subsequently bought all of the DLC , because they were on sale at a price that was too good to pass up. Have just finished the Tutorial, and am now ready to start playing some regular games. I've got lots of experience playing Civilization V and Civilization VI, so am familiar with the basic aspects of a 4X game. However, I'm still a newbie to this game,

Publius, Thanks for your very helpful advice. It looks like my mistake in the Tutorial was to completely fill up my warship fleets to the max level permitted. This then caused my Transports to be put into separate fleets, which the Pirates kept shooting up unopposed. I still have a lot to learn about this game, but at least now my Transports won't die quite as easily. Will now try playing my first regular game.

I bought Galactic Civilizations III two days ago (along with all of the DLC), and am slowly learning the basic gameplay mechanics. Have just finished the Tutorial campaign (finally), but it was harder than I thought it would be, since Pirate ships kept sniping my Transport ships and thereby killing off my Legions.
