I've been deliberately limiting my gameplay so I don't hit the 2-hour limit on the Steam return policy. I spent most of the 2 hours on the tutorial, and then tried making a new game but felt overwhelmed with not understanding the details of the backstory so I posted here to see if maybe I also needed to get Galactic Civilizations I and II and/or Star Control: Origins while they were still on sale. I would only want them though if they are happening in the same universe as Galactic
Do I need to buy Galactic Civilizations I and II in order to be able to understand what is going on in Galactic Civilizations III?
I am completely new to the Galactic Civilizations franchise. I just got Galactic Civilizations III Gold but I find a lot of stuff to be really confusing. Is there an in-universe chronological development between Galactic Civilizations I, II, and III (like with The Sims, Mass Effect, or Age of Empires)? I am wondering if maybe my confusion is because I am completely new to the franchise and have not played the previous games. Or can I really get the full experience with
Also, instead of replacing each of the 3789 default star names with my own custom star names, what would happen if I only replace say 100 of the default star names with new custom star names and then delete the remaining 3689 star names? If a map is generated with more than 100 stars in that case, would some of the stars have duplicate names, or does Galactic Civilizations III have a system in place to prevent that (e.g. suffixing a number or letter to duplicated names)?
