Well: 1. Canada is the largest consumer of US goods and services, 2. Especially with the huge drop in the US dollar, our wages are pretty close to parity *except* we don't really have any part of the country that's as insane for cost of living as New York or Silicon Valley. 3. It's pretty much accepted that our lumber is as good as it gets. However, perhaps only the last condition (dumping) should force a true free trading nat

The temperature on the Canada-US softwood lumber dispute has just been dialed up again by an old adversary of the Canadian lumber industry: Senator Max Baucus (D-Mon) who introduced the original legislation to double the tariffs. Currently, Canadian lumber companies exporting to the US have paid C$3.6 billion of tariffs into an escrow account -- the status of the fund

Looking at both the raw data ( Link ) and the Technical Notes ( Link ), this has obviously been poorly thought out. 1. rank of AAGI (Average Adjusted Gross Income) is a valid measure = (Adjusted Gross Income) / (# of returns) 2. rank of AICC (A

Though it's way too late in the development phase of GalCiv2 I'll throw my 2 cents in ... I think FOW in galaxy sized space games is also a matter of scale. Even at our (human) current level of technology, we basically know where the stars in the galaxy are and, with some effort, we can deduce the presence of gas giants (e.g., due to oribital perturbations). With a great deal more effort we can find smaller planets (e.g., if they transit the l

let children be children. Let Innocence Live! I agree -- one of the freakiest things I've ever seen was a "high maintenance" mom coaching her over-made up daughter (probably under 10) about the up-coming trials at some beauty pagent. I've heard hockey coaches use about the same language but with less pressur

Like many are speculating, I believe Colin Powell will resign in favour of Condoleezza Rice for Secretary of State. And, as everybody is predicting, Rehnquist will resign to start the process of moving in a new bunch of Supremes.

Which still does not answer the reasoning behind stopping any pursuit into the Missile defense system From a Canadian perspective, the cold hearted reasoning is pure risk analysis -- what's the probability of one our cities to be targeted versus the probability of a portable event (e.g., suitcase bomb) being

Think of it this way Missile Defense is just another preventative measure to a nuclear holocaust, I'm very skeptical of the science behind Missile Defense (having struggled with the physics equations for the simple case and the game theory pursuit scenarios) and, as I've said before, the economics of any sin

USA has lower tax than more european country and less trade tariffs. Are you just talking about personal marginal rate? Or are you including business taxes? There are a few bright, burning issues of contention that exist between the good neighbours in North America. Hopefully these will get resolved amicably during GW Bush's second term: 1. Lumber tariffs -- though the Canadian stumpage rules do need reform, the tariff regime imposed by the US is way out of line since they can't even prove to their own FT

Why do the elite circles of "world citizens", e.g., U.N. Sec. Kofi, irrationally despise this Country? Speaking as one of the "world citizens" not from the USA, I'd say despite is too strong: disappointment is more accurate. As for irrationality here's a quick list of non-military grievences: - fair or not, the USA is associated with the World Bank and the IMF and their mostly disastrous attempts at reforming other nation's eco
