Would you mind posting a link to the save you're referring to? You can just drop it into a dropbox and post a link to that here. The save game files can be found in your Documents under "My Games"

Right now the company is kind of at a state of limbo with Gal Civ 3. We're still monitoring bugs and helping the community with any issues that they find, but right now a lot of our focus is just trying to meet deadlines for Star Control: Origins. After our release date in September, you can expect more love and care for Gal Civ 3 and other Stardock titles, rest assured.

Without changing any of the xml code, there should be settings within the game that will allow you to change somethings around. You can increase the scroll speed of the camera if that would make things any easier, and you should also be able to change the UI from being set to "normal" to "large" (assuming that your monitor is able to accommodate the change, which it seems like it can).

To be fair, the event does come with two separate warnings/events which allow you to keep your planet from being destroyed. In addition, the planet is still habitable; just not as much

I know that when I have played through the game that I have received text for all of these issues (including Slowdown, which reduces the speed of all star-ships for 10 turns or so). Perhaps there's an issue with your game? Have you attempted reinstalling? If you could, please consider also posting a save game in which you have the galactic events ramped up to "abundant" (and maybe play the game for a few turns so that you encounter an event that's missing its text).
