There are improvements that are hard to implement and some not that hard. True galactic market is something not so hard to invent but could give huge impact in gameplay. Why I call it TRUE galactic market? Because the market could sell only that players sell, it cant have any resources, ships, tech or whatever it is, on its own. There could be 2 ways how to sell in the TRUE market: Option A: Say a player have 20 Durantium that he wants to sell. The player could t
If you dont like crusades uninstall that dlc. The base game is wonderful. 2 is at least as done as it is going to get. Dont forget forget to download the cu mod.
Couldnt agree more. GalCiv pre-crusade was satisfyingly playable, from bug/balance point of view. Of course and obviously, when new additions like espionage and others will be done properly, the gameplay will be richer than it was pre-crusade. How

From the very beginning I felt that those planets' potential are not used. There could be tons of stuff to do, that could be there, but are not. Let us eXplore those, dead and alive planets for some artifacts or other phenomena! Invent planetary tiles with some difference, more than just buildable/non-buildable tiles. Make places unique!
it all comes down to AI. I think Crusade is edging out any version of Civ on that factor. This looks to continue through Stardock's development cycle and give GC3 a definitive lead on that subject.
Would be hard to find lot of players who would disagree. Stardock has put effort to AI and multicore engine and I really hope players will appreciate that as MUCH as it deserves. It is not immediately appa

From income perspective, first, there is treasure hunting, then there is trade and then there is commerce buildings. My thinking is that it should be exactly the contrary. Who the heck would waste the precious planetary space for commerce buildings when we have options like we have? Doh...

admiral, you are going into very specific details that were meant only to describe, to better illustrate my main point - that Civs advantage is that their 4 eXes work simultaneously, whereas GalCivs - consequently. I was attempting to prove that this is a MAJOR difference between the two games, where Civ IN THIS ASPECT wins. I do not want to say that Civ is a better game in every way - that would be LUDICROUS to say.

125 Replies 730,888 Views

It goes without saying that GalCiv is far better in terms of AI and time it takes to process a turn. Indeed, its hard to find a game that competes with GalCiv in this sense. I also agree with the argument, that rarely Civ actually brings the excitement that it promises - the AI is too robust, diplomacy indeed IS pretty crappy. But the design of game architecture, the main principles in Civ still remain unchallenged. Thats what I want to emphasize in this article.</

Shawn12, perhaps it makes complete sense that in space there are lot of safe places which is contrary to the earth in pre-histeric era where you could get dead in just about everywhere. But, yes, I agree with you that eXploration could be made more difficult. One thing that could add to difficulty in GalCiv3 may be the space itself :) It should and could be so vast that it may take considerable effort to explore it before you meet someone. Ofcourse you could just pu

Wins so far? By what measure? Not the sales rate, thats for sure. Customizability GalCiv 3 is greater, yes, but not because Civ developers were unable to come up with race customization. Its just that they had to stick somewhat to historical context. The GalCiv devs themselves admit that Civ are the best 4X game there is, so lets not argue about that, OK?

125 Replies 730,888 Views

When I read GalCiv thinking of what is 4X strategy game in this article , I understood why GalCiv, although being a great game, still falls behind Sid Meier's Civilization. It is because they do not understand the greatest advantage that Civ has compared to GalCiv - as it is written by Draginol in his article "what is a 4x strategy game" - they think that eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate phases follow each other consequently - when one phase ends, t

Yes and no :) He talks a lot about visual changes and those are important. As I said, there is a lot to visual aspect to truly cosmic proportions. But... 1) he does not talk about proportions 2) he does not talk how those sizes impact gameplay and what specific benefits supermassive stellar objects may have

With map sizes bigger and bigger, no longer is the case that a sun or planet MUST take only 1 tile. As we all know, in space stars and planets have mammoth differences in size. Compare our sun to Cephei star or our world to Jupiter for example. It is obvious that those astrophysical bodies have LUDICROUS size differences. It helps a cosmic game a lot to have those differences more obvious than they currently are. Of course, it is impossible to implement such size differen

How about using already existing resources to your mod? Because dont you have second thoughts about inventing even more new resources? I mean - with those coming with Crusade, you gotta admit its surely enough diversity already. Just make em more important by adding em as requirements to new possibilities. Doesnt that sound interesting enough?

You can post such inconvinience/impossibility as bug in this thread: https://forums.galciv3.com/482848/page/8/#3678346 After all, these are MEANT to be moddable but actually are not. To do this, ofcousre, you have to be sure what you re doing. My programming skills for example allow me to modify already given values, not much more [e digicons][/e] so I cannot complain about something I do not unders

AI offers me to pay 140 000 billion credits if I agree to declare a war on his rival. Since it is possible to declare a formal war but do not act on it, the offer is a nobrainer - would gladly take such offers, rush build my empire and conquer em all. 140 000 offer technically may not be a bug, but its a helluwa out of any balance whatsoever. Had 2 such offers in 1st attempt to play crusade, mid game. Having 250 000 from thin air, I didnt play much further because even b

I see what you are talking about and those are words of harsh truths not everyone is prepared to face [e digicons]:waaaa:[/e] For moving-on principle to make sense, however, the developer has to make the new game that much better from the old one. And it is easy to see how that is the case with Shogun and Total war - the graphics and the scale of the game being the first fields the old game cannot compete. With galciv that might not be the cas

GC4? Are you serious? The platform of GC3 is so large, they will be able to add on it tons and tons of stuff for years (and earn millions and millions of bucks :D ) so the very thought of GC 4 is more than premature. If I was a Stardock, the already existing GC 3 would be just a warm up. Would be adding/selling tons and tons of stuff - there definitely is a room for it.

I think you are missing my main point - EXploration and EXpansion (as well as EXploitation and EXtermination, of course) CAN ACTIVELY GO ON TILL THE VERY LATE STAGES OF THE GAME and I think I have proposed how. It is the mix of those 4 EXes that compliment each other and that makes the game exciting, when those 4 work SIMULTANEOUSLY. This is why late game currently becomes far less interesting - because there is only 1 (!!!) EX left and that is EXtermination. But imagine if my

I completely support this as a necessary compliment to now-invented espionage. Now, when spies could give you foreknowledge of the opponents latest ship designs, a battle simulator is a must have!
