Some choices just don't make sense for races like the Yor. What do they care about food, disease or ghosts? They might have problems with earthquakes or radiation, but otherwise, they are machines. Same with planets. What the heck do machines care about happiness or culture? They shouldn't even come into the process for a race like the Yor.

Also, just because your computer is new doesn't mean the drivers are up to date. You should check, especially your video drivers. Try disabling any virus protection software while running the game and see if it helps.

I was checking through the names for random stars when I came across my first name, Forster. I am honored. Thank you whoever submitted that. Never thought I'd see the day! [e digicons][/e] [e digicons]:P[/e]

Are you sure the influence modules don't work? I have been running constructors out and creating star bases next to other race boundaries, adding more constructors to build the various influence modules and watched my borders expand, such that the other race's planets start flipping to me.

[quote who="Bamdorf" reply="42" id="3512382"] After some thought and the realization that I have not reinstalled windows since I got my XPS 8100 (4 yrs), I have decided to reinstall the OS and go from there. I found a guide on the web for doing a clean install for a Dell, so here goes nothing. He's pretty thorough so I bet I won't be up and running for a while! LOL, it's the journey that is the fun, right?

I doubt its a corrupted system. I had the problem where it would freeze on the first attempt to load, but would run fine on the second attempt. I really believe after SD does a couple of it tweaking patches, the freeze problem will go away until the next major overhaul. That has been the how it has gone for me so far. Although I must admit, this is the first time I deactivated all of my spyware/malware programs and it seems to be doing ok now. They must have some initial controls for the larg

The first game I tried had uncommon for habitable. I found 2 planets in the area reachable by my survey ship before colonizing any either of them. I restarted and set it to common and managed to get 5. That is the game I am in now. Haven't met anyone else to see how their distribution was. I was using tight clusters on a huge map.

It seems like we have taken a step backward as far as smoothness of play. I am back to playing with no problems for 30 to 35 turns, then everything starts dragging. Finally, turns are taking so long, when the turn lights up I have to hit escape, save, escape and exit. I had hoped we had seen the last of that a while back. Now, I have to either wait while for Gal Civ to unload, or open task manager and physically shut down the process to restart and play again for another 20 to 30 turns.

Small ships that stay far enough away to have time to avoid missiles and kinetic rounds are too far away to be able to hurt a big ship, I believe. I also would think missiles would be guided with internal systems, making dodging a bit more difficult.
