I've had an issue where of my ships in a fleet only one would actively engage in combat. while the others stayed out of range for most of the fight. The problem turned out to be that I had a missile boat classified as support because I wanted it to stay back and fire missiles at long range. (That's how I read the description). The two other ships were free spawns (malevolent frigate and a small ship from a survey) and since those start as escort they would stay out of the fight as wel

Is there a way to change the classification (tactic) of a ship without upgrading to a different design?

I just noticed something while playing that seems like a bit of an exploit. Upgrading a constructor starship that started with two construction modules but used one of them to an identical design costs next to nothing (92 credits in my game). After upgrading it's back to two construction points so it would basically allow one to spam starbases almost for free with only the limited speed/range of early designs limiting you.
