Has anyone tried an all trade race? Mercantile government, bonus trade routes... all that? Has anyone gotten it to work? I tried doing it on my normal difficulty level (Painful) and it did *not* go well for the home team at all. Do you have to couple trading with some other picks, perhaps? Or do I just suck? ~SDC~

First, when you pick the +PQ racial trait, is the bonus percentage applied as soon as you see a planet or only after you land on it? (ie... is that size 20 planet *really* size 20, or am I just seeing it that way because that's what it's going to become after I colonize it) Second, is the planet's PQ permanently upgraded, or is it just upgraded when you own the planet? Finally, what exactly is the effect of PQ? I know it helps morale (a lot) and it can hold more people. Howe
Oh dear... no wonder my economy has been in the dumps. I build one of those for each system with any inhabited stars in it... plus one for every resource I can get my hands on. Yeesh. Thanx for the info. ~SDC~
Does anyone know how much upkeep starbases require? Do they cost more when they have more modules on them? And do constructors cost any upkeep? I remember someone saying constructors are free, but one of my empires sank into bankruptcy as I was building nothing except constructors.... no buildings, ships, or starbases... just constructors. (Don't ask why... it seemed like a good idea at the time) ~SDC~
No... that is exactly why trade goods are worth it. I mean, for what they cost, most of them aren't all that great if you only look at what they do for your empire. However, you do have the ability to sell them to any (or all) empires that you choose, so you could, in theory, get every one of the major and minor civs to buy it from you, each of them offering a really hefty price. And you can continue to use it even after you sell it. And no, they can't sell it to anyone else.... that's the a
What in &*()&) did the developers do to the AI in 1.03? I had been fairly consistently beating the comp on Genius in 1.02, now it kicks my butt on the mid-level intelligence. Plus, I thought you and the computer were supposed to be playing the same game. (ie no unfair cheats.) Yet, I've come across computer players that had obviously done 2 to 3 times as much research and population growth within the first 20 turns.... before tech trading could possibly account for the ridiculous comp t
A bug? Hardly. It almost evens the score between you and the computer... they can see the entire map from the very beginning of the game. ~SDC~
