I thought along similar lines. I imagine it would be easier to update as well. The one all the fuss was over has "Intrigue" and "Crusade" on the cover and is dated 2018. Still useful, and I may go back and replay the campaign from Intrigue, but before that a lot of good changes hadn't been made yet.

How do you stop something from rotating? The piece in question is the Supply Module from the Raider Fleet set for a custom race. The one available for the design set counter-rotates two double-ended cargo boxes around a central shaft. When not spinning they are a perfect fit for a GP Cargo Hull I designed. I can get them to stop in the design screen when I attach them and then save. But when I click on it on the main design window it pops up and the screen and the parts are ro

I never thought I would ever say this, but MS Defender's Firewall is user friendly compared to some. But as you say, since the firewall came with the Avast package it is pretty much the one the rest of the package works best with. Can't live without them though. and this one's caught stuff. So I'll fight with its foibles and complain when I have trouble with something. ,

I got it downloaded -- by clicking the DL arrow every time it kicked back the write to disk error. The problem started at around 285 - 300 MB and after I punched it all the way to a bit past 500 MB, it took over and finished the DL. I scanned the GalCiv folder and a couple of the files in it and a couple of sub folders and there isn't any viruses flagged. It all seems in working order. Still, I wish I could figure out what the issue is. It's going to bug me for a bit..
Have you tried making an exception to the Steam.exe? It is the program that downloads the file.
Yep. Steam.exe -- called by the title Steam Client Bootstrapper -- is on the exclusion list since before this issue. Did I mention it was only GalCiv -- both 2 and 3, by the way -- that is having the issue. So.... Could you guys hurry 4 along for me. I'd appreciate that.[e digicons]:roll

I made the file an exception, specifically gave it the "allow" through the firewall and past the virus checker -- no go. Between my last Windows, drive, game and viral updates it doesn't want to play. Even turned off my incoming virus scan to see if that would work. The manual still hangs up. I'll look into Whitelisting, but that seems to be run through the dev's website and has forms. It may take a few days to clear the time and it won't be an instant fix. For now I'll just g

I followed all of Steam's troubleshooting plans; uninstalled and reinstalled a number of times; I've rebooted as well. It only happens with GC III. I loaded two other games from Steam after this error started. It stops around the time 300 MB gets downloaded. I don't know if anyone else is having the issue. I lost my drive recently and this is a fresh install.

You can also add to any one of the production areas mentioned by assigning Citizens with the desired specialization to the planet. Put it in the Empire area for a global 3% increase or on a specific planet for a local 30% increase.

I think the current limit on money forces you to make strategic choices raising the limit would make too easy. A small increase might work, but set it too high and you remove all challenge from the game. As for limiting the number of wars you can be in at one time: No. I presume with this you really mean to limit the number of races you can fight at one time. If there is an alliance of four or more very weak powers a strong adversary would eat them alive piecemeal and never be at risk

It would be nice if the AI learned to use an exploit after it was used on it, but this isn't an heuristic AI. So while it may use your tug to move a fleet faster/farther, it isn't likely to stack them and separate a ship from the fleet for a long solo cruise. PvP, on the other hand... Yeah as soon as someone spots you doing something like this you can probably expect a massive assault on your undefended core planets. I hope the devs spot this ad look into it. Otherwise I see a

I think the scorched earth idea is not a good one. To badly amend some famous words... The Empire has fallen: "we will fight them in the asteroids; we will fight them on the moons; we will fight them in the colonies. We will never surrender. I can see a small percentage of colonies committing suicide, but others will choose to not surrender and fight on. A small cluster of them could group together and sue for peace -- as a puppet, perhaps. Still ot
First off I assume your government is Galactic Empire not Stellar Monarchy. Research some key techs to raise approval (easy to please etc), change government type (it will reset elections) and build port of call (raise tourism income) everywhere.
Why not stellar Monarchy? It looks nice, gets ships built quickly and doesn't have all those bothersome elections.

Since Intrigue went live I have been trying to run a stellar empire, really... For some reason I keep going broke. Anyone have any ideas on stopping this terrible state of affairs? All my colonies are in the black (in the latest attempt) and most games have always been solvent on the colony level. I don't have all that many ships only enough stations to provide adequate raw materials for construction. My starbases cost 10, ships cost 8, and the coloni

I sent a citizen to a planet and now want to move it elsewhere. Trying to figure out how to do that ended up with me sending another one to the original planet, and I don't need that one there. Things like this should be simple and self explanatory and yet I still keep running into them after how many years?

5 Replies 56,936 Views

Definitely a steep learning curve. I'm still trying to figure out how to increase Research and Construction higher than 15 in the first hundred turns. I am being out produced in just about every area.

I agree. All communication screens with aliens should include how they feel about our empire. A busy Emperor can't be expected to remember whether they found us tasty, or want to sell us their offspring.
