It is somewhat contradictive, wanting complex first, and simple later.
Not at all. Because on larger maps, the choices at the start have serious consequences ... but after the expansion the single planet is one among many, meaning the choices for it have far less consequences on the big picture. Instead, the big picture is influenced by the sum of all choices for those many planets. It's like McDonalds. McDonalds start

I just took a look at the optin. I will reserve my judgement on the changes of planetary management till I played a game with it - which will probably be to late to contribute to the development discussion. But I noticed two things I want to mention here. 1. The sort options in the ship- and planet list are neat. However: Sort by name seems to be missing. Why? Is that so hard? Is the alphabet the sworn enemy of GalCiv-developers? Also there seems to be no sorting for starbases and ral
Resolution 1920x1080 - this is native to both the laptop screen as well as the secondary monitor that is connected via HDMI. Windows with now updated drivers for the graphic card. 1.3 Optin GalCiv. Gel-UI, bloom and lean maps enabled. Small UI-size. The icon dance party is still going on ... ... I guess even in space you gotta fight for your right to party [e digicons][/e]
So, can we make this more fun somehow?
Yes, by accepting the first three choices and dealing with the consequences. Usually the fun in a game is overcoming obstacles and finding ways to win despite certain disadvantages. So you wanted a production world but get you get one that is good for research? ... Just accept the challenge! Maybe it is a little frustrating at first, but if you win in the end you will feel so much better.
We ARE going to get rid of the per planet spending wheel. I know many of you like it but it is just incredibly tedious to deal with and violates the general spirit of GalCiv (there's a reason we never had this in previous GalCivs, it's not like we hadn't thought of it). In its place will be something different. We'd like to hear what YOU would like to see in there.
I think it is only tedious if you put the pressure on yourself
I have to ask a somewhat controversial question: In the debate about the weak AI of GalCiv 3 on this forum there are many suggestions and demands brought up what the AI should do in order to be better. Has anyone checked if it is possible and feasible to do stuff like this with AI-programming in a game like this? I mean it is one thing to suggest that the AI should do this or that, but another thing to implement it and to implement it in a way that the AI doesn't suffer for it in
Thanks Franco fx, but actually there is an edit-button now. Please keep in mind that the first post is from June 1st 2015. I added another post yesterday, 2.5 months later to continue my feedback from a casual gamer. Obviously some points from the starting post are not valid any more, which shows that GalCiv3 is developing in a good way.
So two weeks ago, after a longer pause, I started an insane map with nearly everything set to rare. It's my first real game, meaning the earlier ones I did were just to get to know GalCiv3 and I didn't took them all to seriously. But this one I started with the intention of playing for real and with my own custom race. ... 441 turns and 36 hours and 24min of gaming time later ... I have to confess: I'm loving it. In a nutshell, I finally have the feeling an epic <s
My anti-aliasing was set to 4x. I just tried it with 8x and with "off". The icons are dancing in all three cases. Also it's not just the extrem planet icon like stated above, but all icons on planets and starbases. I'm running an Acer Aspire VN7-791laptop with Windows 10 home and a GeForce GTX 860 M graphic card. GeForce driver 353.54. Haven't loaded the newest driver (355.60) yet.
I have seen this too. I noticed it on extreme planet icons. When the planet comes into view by zooming or moving the map, the icon jiggles for a second although I already stopped the zooming or the movement. The icon moves probably 5 pixels left to right or up and down several times, gets slower and stops. To be honest, I think the dancing icons are kind of funny. Can we keep them as an option?
I understand the wish to make the battle system more interesting and I also believe that this can be done without implementing tactical combat. An example are the roles in combat, the player can assign to ships. However, I think the retreat as described would bring more negatives to the game than positives. Sure, it would be better for immersion and it would be neat if there is a chance for weaker ships to survive. But this also means a lot of extra micromanagement and that it takes m
1. Searching . I want to be able to search for ships, planets, starbases etc. by name or other criteria. Ideally I could select what I look for and the criteria and I get presented with a list of search results. The list would give me information and also allow me to move the map to the location. Let's say I search for ships of the type "Fujikos Frigate M1". I get a list of the matching ships with information like the fleet it belongs to or the planet it is on etc. I could
Expand your Galactic Civilizations III experience with new Mega Events that include the return of the Dread Lords, a declaration of war from the Peacekeepers and more. Here are some EXAMPLES of some of the events:
I don't understand this. Are there more events than the 5 examples in the DLC oder are these 5 it? I interpret this that there are more than 5, but the thread here talks like there are no more.
If it is a third option, than the border is the influence line, right? What will happen if ships, planets or starbases switch the site of borders because of spreading influence? Do you have to declare on your neighbour, because your influence spreads and engulfes a starbase?
I don't expect a guard ship to move, just to pop up in the "idle ship" list if an enemy comes close. So I can decide what to do.
Hm, I guess I was wrong. I thought guard would ignore friendly ships and only alert if the enemy is coming. If it ignores enemies too, why is it called "guard"? It should be called "park".
I zoom out to navigate and consider the big picture, but to do the local work (like placing starbases, setting the destination for fleets, attack others etc.) I zoom in. I do that to enjoy the scenery and also to be more exact with the final movement.
I think ships on guard duty wake up when enemy ships, ships from factions you are at war with, come into sensor range. @ Petri Kokko Automatic attacking other ships, friend or foe, would make people mad when the first ships goes up against a clearly superior force and gets killed.
I have a little problem with rally points lately. If I set a rally point as destination for a shipyard, the first ship that arrives triggers the "idle ship"-info. That is ok. However, every ship that arrives later also triggers the "idle-ship"-info. That is not ok, because I want to use this rally point to build up a fleet, meaning I only want to hear from it again if the logistics are maxed out and the fleet is ready to go. I remember in my games shortly after release I could use the
Arr ... invent your own symbol, matey! I guess it would be kind of interesting to design skull-symbols of the different races in GalCiv.
Exsample: limit to production per planet is 30 hammers but if you get the tech for better manufactory building and uppgrade your factory into a stronger version, the hammer limit per factory with the stronger version gets a higher limit to more production/hammers
I'm not sure I understand this. Do you mean the total production of a factory is for example 5 ships of a certain type, meaning a certain number of production points? So this
Maybe the account you are using is lacking the rights to write into the saved games folder? You could try to create a file from another programm (for example a text editor) in the same location to check this. The saved games should be somewhere in MyDocuments/MyGames/...
I don't have mods too only some custom factions, which I don't count as mods. However I probably will at some point try some mods, but I haven't explored the base game enough yet. I wait with mods until I know the base game better.
There is a "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter tool (that's what MS calls it) that can prevent certain updates to be installed on Windows 10: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930
Compatibility with GalCiv 3 aside - if you want to make sure that your computer is running over the weekend, you shouldn't upgrade to a freshly released windows version.
