Well let us use some real world information here - Members of the giant Google amongest several other major leaders in the world have donated billions of dollars into researching and creating a method that will allow private corporations to grab passing asteroids and haul them to a stationary orbit between the moon and the earth (closer to moon in case of ya know collision). The main reason for this is of course money but also the fact that one good sized meteor can contain lets say m

I really like the banning idea. It even adds a certain kind of intrigue to it if you put in an ability to betray the treaty but in doing so puts you at war with all other races.
Quoting Gaunathor, reply 2 I really don't want a return of genocide-runs. That was the worst aspect in the MoO-series. How can you dislike the merciless slaughter of hundreds of billions of people? That's usually the highlight of my day. Seriously though, I believe we should be able to simply "Glass" or otherwise devastate enemy worlds into a state that requires technology and
I have the strange suspicion they will, and I'm not exactly thrilled by the idea. While I did (sort of) like the Terror Stars, I really don't want a return of genocide-runs. That was the worst aspect in the MoO-series. Anyhow, Mormegil mentioned here and in the last Qt3 podcast, that there will be minable planets. So there is already something planned for some of the dead planets.
Thanks, i will have to lis
Any Shield or hull that could withstand particle collisions at those relative velocities would be impervious to most combat weapons from the start. Not to mention that while our current understanding of physics does not rule out warp drives and wormholes, it does suggest energy shields of the type seen in sci-fi are impossible with the exception of plasma curtains which we already have, still I'm happy to
While reading some forums I got this idea from a few different posts and wasn't sure which one to post it in so I decided to create my own. On the topic of dead planets: There is a ton of them around and it is aesthetically pleasing cause it adds a certain amount of reality to it considering the Goldilocks zone etc. This seems to me to be about the extent of their usefulness. With this in mind I think that Dead planets could become something akin to space stations. Not rea
SHIELDS...ya need shields I tell you SHIELDS..which wouldn't work during that kind of travel anyways. Though I think the collision thing wouldn't be as much of an issue when you would have to consider the type of material that the ship would inherently need to be made out of. Also generating and emitting some kind of field on the very fringe of the ships hull could divert or deflect most trouble that could impact but there is also a million and one variables involved.
I would like to see an auto launch feature for sure.
Well I agree with you on planetary invasion I always thought that needed a lot more depth than it got in GCII, the old radio show was very perfuctory indeed. The issue as I see it for the eye candy in the colony view is to not have it distract from the functionality of that view, I've never seen a 4x space game that managed to make such a view both detailed graphicly and functional must show a spinning globe or a picture o
Mt first thought when reading this is how many cool options this could give for espionage. I mean a Terran spying on a Dregin might stand out a little making it harder but a Dregin spying on a Dregin would add a bonus etc. Plus this would make having a diverse population have an added effect or having a singular race more secure.
I'm no expert but couldn't a compromise be made in this situation. Making a globe like feature would for me seem like a huge undertaking for the number of planets that would be in one map and it might draw to much work away from the actual game play which in my opinion is more important. At least draw attention away from more features or ways to play etc. Is it not possible to have a 2D map with 3D obstacles (maybe a tilted view and still a lot of work) or simply just an
