I would hold off on buying that Steam Machine until you can find out more about its specs. One prime missing item in the article you provided a link to is how much RAM can be installed on it. I read somewhere (and I can no longer find it) that GC3 would require a minimum of 4G RAM. If accurate, that implies that 4G would support only the smaller galaxy sizes that GC3 will have available. But would the Steam Machine come with even that much

Thanks for that Kryo. I'm a poor recent college graduate about to start my career and all the costs that entails (paying back student loans, rent, car note, etc.), so I've been relegated to console peasantry for several years. Hence the reason I'm looking into this Steam Machine as a viable alternative to a PS4 or X1. These past few years I've found myself missing the more cerebral nature of PC gaming :(
All I want from GalCiv3 is more non-humanoid aliens and aliens built on something other than DNA. Give me that Stardock and I will be happy.
I'll admit the option to "uplift" a minor race in GC3 would be a veeeeeery interesting option. Could it come back to bite you in the ass ala the uplifting of the Krogans by the Salarians in the Mass Effect universe? It's a very interesting question.
This also bothered me about GalCiv2. A class 20 planet was a class 20 planet was a class 20 planet. It didn't matter what race you were playing. The Torians should be aquatic and the Yor should be able to colonize a larger array of planets because they're robotic. The real question is how to balance this? I assume pay more race points for being able to colonize a wider variety of planets and less (negative) for being able to colonize only a small sectio
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/multimedia/display/20131127235119_IBuyPower_Preps_499_High_End_AMD_Based_Steam_Box_Machine.html I'm looking to get back into PC gaming. Will this machine be capable of this if I download Windows 8? It says I can play Windows games thru streaming, but I'd rather not do that.
The very first game I remember playing on the PC was Might & Magic II in '87 or '88. It was on a Tandy 1000 with 16 color monitor lol. Some of my very first games on that Tandy were Crescent Hawk's Inception (Battletech), Master Ninja, Demon's Forge, and one other title I can't remember. You played a caveman after a nuclear war that had to get a battlesuit.
After playing maybe 50-60 hours into a Classic Ironman game, I think I've had enough. There were many false starts and crushing defeats, but slowly I got the hang of things. They slowed down research times considerably more or less forcing you to invest in a lab or two. The DLC missions of Slingshot and Progeny no longer come back up if you skip or fail them. This is something many people have been clamoring for on the 2K forums. But........</p
How about Aliens that actually look like Aliens and not a humanoid with a frog head.
I'm with Ashbery76. I'm so sick of humanoid aliens. I want silicon based lifeforms (not straight up robots like the Yor), non-humanoid races, aquatic races, high/low gravity races, etc.
It looks like it's 64 bit, so you should be good, the integrated graphics might not support the highest graphics settings, but it should run it fine. Keep in mind recommended specs are not finalized yet. Just letting you know.
Thanks Mormegil. I'll be following this game closely.
I have a newish laptop that I used only for college (I graduated last week). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834200548 I loved GalCiv2 and would very much like to purchase this game. Please answer. I posted this on Gamespot and nobody answered.
