Also the more you know about the ideology and tech trees the better. Forgot to add that you can have the AI do lots of menial stuff till you get the hang of things. Although it is good with numbers strategy seems to be best when I rum the show.

i7 laptop with gen 3 cpu, 16 ram and Radeon 7910. It will slow down after a while but never bad. I play All games as insane with at least 10 majors and 5 minors. Usually Insane with 49 total.

ram is the big thing and it seems you are OK. you may start to slow down around turn 200 though.

open steam and go to workshop your files subscribed items and get rid of them that way so they do not auto download again.

In the areas where I have 100% influence could some of the pirates give up a life of crime. Also when I have the starbase bonus to build 2 with 1 module if I build only the starbase and do a turn the ability to build the other module disappears. If I eject the ship then dock it after Turn then all is fine.
