I tried dumping every unit right next to the colony capital with this result. Whatever the mini-game is supposed to be I think it's fair to say that invasion is almost certainly not working as intended. And the fact that auto-resolve consistently loses in cases where victory should be reliably assured is pretty bad. Better QA required! P.S. Thanks for the tip Publius :) <img src="http://i.imgur.com/2r1Kzvi.jpg" alt="" width="1107" height="

I don't understand the minigame, I arranged my forces to encompass all the structures on the planet. I had enough forces that I could double up some of the hexes and prioritised hexes that were adjactent to multiple structures. The result above was from auto-resolving the combat. I tried auto-resolving and manual combat using different strategies multiple times, with the same result in every case.

Is it just me or is invasion bugged? This is my attempt to invade the Drengin homeworld at the end of the tutorial. As you can see I have a 10:1 battle advantage, a +40% soldering bonus and a strong tech advantage, and I've also nullified resistance with biological warfare. Not only do I lose, but my invasion force is slaughtered to a man, while 50% of the defenders survive. I even lose all my transports. The numbers don't even add up. Apparently I lost 3 times as many s

On a single tile I have a stack of two ship groups. One is a fleet of 17 ships, the other is a single ship. When the icon shows the fleet the popup info shows the stats for the single ship, moving the fleet icon then moves the single ship. If I double click the stack the fleet icon swaps to show the single ship, but now the popup shows info for the fleet.

How do I view the details of the fleet defending a hostile planet? If I encounter an enemy fleet in space I can view what ships are in the fleet. But if my fleet approaches and enemy planet I don't see any way to view the defending ships.

I never even played MOO or MOO2 when they first came out and played them for the first time a few years ago. Even so, and despite the dated graphics, the gameplay was still as good as any other Space 4X game I've played. The richness of the systems, and as AdamB says the flavour text, in Alpha Centauri are miles above what was achieved in Beyond Earth. We were discussing the use of voice acting earlier, the voice acting in Alpha Centauri is nothing short of superb and oozes with na

This is a very interesting post. I readily admit to being one of those demanding customers who expects a lot from modern strategy games. The points that Frogboy makes regarding how much money these games make is particularly thought provoking for me. What I still struggle to understand though is how come games like the original MOO, Alpha Centauri and Elite Frontiers were made by just a couple of guys for peanuts and are in many ways deeper and richer than the modern rem

"Not sure what is meant by "meaningful" in this context. Because anomalies have such a wide range of galactic effects depending on map size and frequency settings..." You're right, I should be a bit clearer. Currently anomalies are meaningful in the sense that they do have an effect, they give your empire some bonuses, but presumably they also give the other empires similar bonuses at roughly the same rate, and this happens largely automatically, you just set one or more expl

What are 'minors', I haven't come across those yet. Given the diversity of races voice acting for the whole game may well be too much to ask, but a voiceover or two for the campaign start dialog and galactic achievements doesn't seem unreasonable. What about that research robot too, he doesn't even beep! The music is good and UI sounds are fine, but I think a bit more could be done with the sound overall. I am enjoying it though. Despite a few niggles it has masses mor

Hi. To start off here's a bit of background on my experience with GalCiv. I tried hard to like GC2 but never got into it. The economy controls were incomprehensible, late game turned into constructor ship spam management hell, and I found it severely lacking in personality. On hearing about the GC3 sequel I was only slightly interested. Reviews of the initial release confirmed my fears that it was largely a clone of the original, with some glaring omissions, e.g. Espionage.</p

I was skeptical when I first heard of the Citizens feature, but having toyed with it in the few days since I bought GC3 in the sale I think it's been done pretty well and seems to add some interesting decisions to the game. I do though have one question and one gripe though. Question: Once I've assigned a Commader to a ship, how do I transfer them to a different ship? I encountered this situation the other night where I attempted to assign a Commander to a small combat ship, but the C
