Yeah most resources should be obtainable in more ways than just mining because you got lucky. It could be through missions, improvements, tech, trade, bazaar, wtv, but has to be more reliable than what it is now. I'd be all down for some 'important' improvements not costing a lot of special resources (build population or tier2 farms not costing too much if any special resources), but the fancy ones like epiphany (immediately research tech) cost more.

A few things I noticed in the 2.6 opt in preview; Technology capital consumes 1 or 2 arnor spice per turn once built. It's also listed as +1 arnor spice when you build as opposed to other buildings that say -1 to build. Right now its completely messed up and will eat all ur spice! So I've tried a bunch of things, and the incredibly long turns only occur when the ai's are at war (UP peace resolution sped my turns up and it was glorious). I reinstalled my OS and it did help quite a bit, but the game is still unplayable for me. I sit around doing nothing. It's driving me crazy because the base game did not have this problem.

Hey, I just got crusade and it's a great improvement from the base game, stardock did a great job making this game interesting! Unfortunately, the turns are freaking slow after a while. I usually play on small/medium maps, so it's 'only' a minute. It kills the pacing completely though and the game is unplayable after about an hour. I hope the tech tree button works to view research, because I've always found the UI pretty bad otherwise (in the default screen you have shown above). The list of techs is in a box all the way on the left, while the description is in another box that's tiny (and isn't big enough to show all the effects of the tech) all the way on the right. I was thinking about this too! Administrator requirement is a great idea, and it gives you a better option for actually using those special and unique components. Right now mass production of ships that require nothing special works too well, so a 'super' ship that can actually make use of all the funky stuff would be great. Kind of like a unique mercenary really.
Defense? What's that? I just mass missiles and destroy everything before they have a chance to return fire... I agree that defenses should get looked at, I've found it more effective to focus exclusively on missiles and ship size over any other weapon and defensive tech. Production is also never a problem so why does it matter when you do lose ships?
I think that would be a good idea as well; some sort of scale, button or whatever to alter the setting.

When I use the benevolent ideology trait or the mercenary ship to flip planets, I can 'trap' the garrisoned fleets on top of the planet icon forever. This has no serious gameplay consequence, apart from the enemy losing control of the ships (it doesn't prevent me for garrisoning the planet). It is only slightly annoying really, when I click the planet to bring up the planet management screen I get the fleet screen instead. I do not think this happens when you culture flip

I just got the mercenaries exp, so I've only just noticed this 'bug' now. (Versus godlike AI) The Torians will sometimes inexplicably declare war on every major faction simultaneously. This happened even when they weren't the strongest, and when I had excellent relations with them. The buggy part was when there was no window or indication that we were at war (No 'die you vermin message'), I only noticed when they started blowing up my starbases. I assum

I can't help you with 3 (saves are gone), but it does help if i restart my comp a lot of the time. I'll try going for carriers again soon and will update if it crashes repeatedly again. I like a lot of these! I would add upgrading the way invasions work, that thing is pretty damn bland as it is. Oh man I agree on the starbases being weak as hell though. They really need a massive boost to hp and damage. Some of these Stardock won't do though; tactical control is probably one. I think raiding supplies or at least trade routes was in the works at one point. Don't know what happened to it though.

To add to what Bertranhalfwaite was saying, I also find the AI complete junk even on godlike at managing planets but also at building a fleet worth fighting. Right now they start making medium hulls really early (I'm tempted to say within the first 10 turns - what?), but their late game ships are terrible and not challenging.
