I ended up figuring it out -- simple solution as it usually the case: this was my first mod and I didn't realize until I read elsewhere that there was an "enable mods" box in the options. Felt pretty stupid checking it off and finding everything worked great, but alas, sometimes the simplest solution is the hardest to find!

Sad day, I had forgotten there was a distinction. Can't say I recall why I shelled out full price so long in advance now, if not for DLC. I know some people are big fans of the early-access thing, but I found the game entirely unplayable until release, and am not into the technical side of game development, so I guess I made a huge mistake in supporting early. Next time I'll make sure to wait until months after release to take advantage of huge steam sales, I guess.
Okay I'm losing it. I have tried several times to install this mod, but have had no success. I have followed the instructions to the letter, and am sure the files are in the exact locations you specify. Nonetheless, when I boot up Gal Civ 3, absolutely no indication of the mod can be found anywhere. No new species, no new federation ship template, nothing. Could this be a new issues introduced since 1.1 perhaps? I need help. What would everyone advise?
Okay so I am a founder (hence the badge), but have no access to the new DLC. Checked the DLC tab in the properties window in steam. No luck. Any thoughts?
Thanks for these thoughts dansiegel. I also am really unsure about all this stuff, as I haven't gone into the bowels of anything, but I thought from reading I did elsewhere that the AI basically evaluates ships based on their type (support, capital) and stats, and isn't coded to individually make use of them anyway. Presumably, the design has little impact on its actual use of ships of varying types, even ones you create, simply because it should be making build and use decisions base
TurielD, your work looks fantastic. When do you think it will become possible to download whole Federation faction/tech/ship as a compiled package through Steam Workshop? Being able to subscribe to your work, and have it automatically update as your work progresses, would be really super-convenient!
I had been waiting for 1.1 in the hopes that some of the great-looking content that people are designing in the Star Wars and Star Trek universes may become more convenient to add/remove and show up in collections that bunch ship-packs with faction-packs and unique tech trees. Does anyone have any idea how long it will be until these types of collections will start to appear, or is the combination of these different elements still not possible with the current integration of Steam Workshop?</
