Well after pushing a bit I got CS to forward the bug and it should be fixed "in some future patch" [e digicons]:grin:[/e] .. though the tone of the message looked a bit like "and now stop bugging me" so I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Could someone please explain to me what shield punch (and similar ship parts) is supposed to do?
How I am reading the shield punch description, is that 50% of the beam damage is not affected by shields (so does hull damage). I was planning to use this against carriers, since even with a 500 (or whatever) damage beam attack you need 2 hits against every fighter to shoot them down. Well obvious it does not work that way, so what exactly is shield punch doing?
The AI does the same thing in all the games I've started: 1) rush to low/mid level military tech 2) build shipyards on every single planet 3) build huge amounts of warships 4) goes bankrupt 5) drops all research funds to be able to pay maintenance for a hundred warships 6) loose very badly once I get to the higher level tech stuff
For me this starts happening when I have a lot ship/planet/whatever, and at the same time the ship that is moving changes the FOW. When I make a ship with a huge sensor range, and move ships while they stay in that sensor range everything is smooth. "Luckily" you can make a huge-scale ship with only sensors that can single handedly remove the FOW from an entire insane sized map.

Not only the faction power ratings had this problem, this also happens to fleet power. So when you get to endgame and build capital ships their rating gets a huge negative number, which effectively sets your military rating to 0. This in turn causes all AI's you aren't cl
Would it be possible to squeeze in a fix for the faction/fleet power ratings? Given the numerous reports I think we can consider that as a confirmed bug, and one that can have pretty bad effects on the game.
