All those sales have done is massively boost sales. To the order of 3000% for some companies. What a tragedy. Games on Steam can keep selling long after a physical release would no longer be economically feasible to produce and sell.
I'm not sure that you got my point. 3000% sales is one thing, but if the game is priced at $0.50 per unit instead of let's say $15 the profit for companies may be less than wha
In addition, if Steam is in offline mode and you're connected to the internet (something I do on my netbook), it still manages to update the client itself itself from time to time, even if it does not touch my games. Something I find intriguing.
I can verify that. It just happened to me today. Steam calling home, interesting.
In reply to this post from this thread: https://forums.galciv3.com/449603/page/2/#3413119
My concern is that there are still thinking people who probably claim to be sane that don't like Steam.
You do not have to resort to insults to make your point. Insults make me perceive that what follows will be a less-thought-out post. [quote who=
One more thing, does Stardock build in a switch that disables the need to have Steam running to launch GalCiv 3, in the unlikely event that Steam ceases to exist?
An issue for me with regards to Steam would be if the always-on requirement will be there. I do not have the good fortune of guaranteed internet coverage where I live so if I need to go online to play a single-player game it would be a major turn off for me. I have tried Steam's offline mode but after three days of being offline, Steam required me to go online again or else the game would not launch. I am totally fine with Stardock using Steam as a beta testing, game distribution and game
Yes, thanks to Frogboy for the talk. Even though we might not see a non-Steam version at least we know that Stardock is thinking about alternatives. Until then, we'll keep on pushing for a non-steam version and hopefully our desires will be fulfilled one day. [e digicons]^_^[/e]
Thanks for the tip, charon2112! Either way, I've shied away from Steam except to play the occasional FE:LH. :)
So, again, I'll ask for both a Steam Version and a GOG version. If you want to bind multiplayer to Steam, that's fine, but for those of us that mistrust Steam, for whatever reason, we should have another option. I do realize that the GOG version of GalCivIII might not have 'real time' AI updates, but some people are simply content to wait for the next patch, and don't need 'real time' updates. <b
Frogboy already said in this thread, that a non-Steam release is not going to happen. So, all I'm asking for now is, that GalCiv 3 not require the client to be running in order to play. That isn't unreasonable, is it?
Same here for me, I'll use Steam to install and update my games but not to run it or have it running in the background. You would think that with all these online security/privacy issue
Expecting devs to bend over backwards to cater to extreme minorities is unreasonable.
No, just no. If the world were to think like you we'd still be backward barbarians. We probably don't even have inventions like PC! I'd love for GalCiv to remain GalCiv but improvements must be made to perfect the game further.
If such a thing is possible, it would reduce the pain and effort that would be needed to make GalCiv 3 non-Steam exclusive. Every bit helps.
Definitely hoping for this non-Steam exclusive to happen as well. Add one more to the non-Steam group. [e digicons][/e]
