The year past in particular has been a very good example for why breaks in development are extremely important for game development teams, look at the state Rome II and Battlefield 4 were in when they were released, both shoved out the door before they were truly ready and they suffered from it, hell it took me 4 months just to have the nerve to go back and attempt Rome after the state it was in at launch. -,- But yeah, i have high hopes that this game wont be like that

All fantastic ideas, defiantly on-board with the Fleet Commander idea in particular. Perhaps a system with some inspiration/bits and pieces taken out of Endless Space's hero management? They hit the nail on the head doing it.

Anybody thought how having closed borders would effect other game mechanics such as scouting the galaxy? granted most exploring takes place in Gal Civ II in the first section of the game anyway, but particularly on larger map sizes a fair portion of the galaxy can remain unexplored even with multiple scout ships and a lack of range. Implementing closed borders could seriously hamper a players ability to find new systems mid to late game and as such cap their growth. Obv

This would at least help provide a little different feel for the next game.
That's totally fine, i just didn't fancy the prospect of micro managing every city on the planet with one of these screens and it taking up ridiculous amounts of game time. :)
Also note that if you want to support devs, try to purchase games directly from their websites. Indie devs that use the Humble Store get a much bigger chunk of your purchase. Most game stores charge a 30% margin to sell your product. The humble store, only takes sub-10%. So if you see a game y ou like and the Humble Store offers you steam keys, then do the dev a favor and buy it there. They'll get more money and you'll be financially suppo

The Scope for including celestial phenomenon is huge in a game like this, i love the idea of a rouge meteor shower rolling through my system and saving my ass at the last second when an enemy fleet has me outmatched :D Most of the ideas you put up michaelwhittaker are great ones, they will defiantly add more scope the the universe if they can be implemented in a way that doesn't break the game, watching my main systems sun go nova after 300 turns may annoy me just a tad bit......<

It's about finding a balance between play-ability and how easy the system is to understand and use, personally i think the system in Civ II was fine if a little under polished, and the last thing you want to do is make things over complicated. Yes i'm sure there is a part of us all that would love to manage individual cities on a planet but with a game the size and scope of Gal Civ i don't think its feasible without creating some major, potentially game breaking issues. I enjoyed the moral code system for Civ II, but i always felt that it was rather limiting in that the only way you could raise or lower your 'karma' was through random events that after a few breakthroughs seemed generic and repetitive, and evil decisions always seemed to yield more direct benefits than good ones, the decision of letting my soldiers eat another species eggs for a soldering bonus never quite encouraged me to preserve life perhaps the way it should of, and those rare tr

I've never truly had a personal problem with steam or the way it operates (saying this i know friends who have), If anything steam in its own way cuts down on piracy by requiring purchase through a third party vendor that is (reasonably) reliable and requires retail keys. The only concern i'd have concerning DRM management in the game is whether i can access it when, when and however i want to be it on a different country or continent, as well as allowing for a modding community acces
