Huge issue with crusade for me is the battleviewer and tbh outside of the most workshop ships still only animating basic kinetic is the biggest issue. I may be doing something wrong but modding that file does nothing for me. Ships still start on top of eachother regardless of what you mod that file. in GC3 it worked but i cannot get my crusade game to change.

All the time leading to middle of GC3. Has always been an issue. I havn't had the defeat likely and then a win. Usually i have a Victory Certain + 10x the power the battleviewer shows me winning then the battle is over and i lost and barely look any enemy ships with me. I have noticed by saving before these battles and this happens you just reload and the fight goes more as planned.

Thanks, i did try that and it didn't seem to change anything. Either in the mods folder or modding the game file itself. I will test it a little more, but there is a lot of new stuff in the /core/galcivgraphics xml related to the battleviewer but tinkered some and could no get changes. I just hope they didn't go to some hardcoded setup in Crusade. Because the Crusade battle viewer is pretty much as bad as the one we got back in early beta.

I wonder since we are still playing with blueprints to make it so resources dont gum up the works. I think a good answer to the issue esp the AI having issues with building useful ships would be to offer, at certain tech levels, a version of the weapon that does not require a resource, is 2-3 tech levels behind your highest researched in that tree and costs a lot more to make and maintain. Like lets say for an example im the AI and i have Doomrays unlocked but i just do

A lot of those things sound good but imo a lot are just more work than they would be worth for such a niche genre. Id just like a DLC for new/updated weapon animations/fx. We basically have arguably worse weapon and defense fx compared to GC2. I was hoping that Crusade would have another pass at this but sigh nope just the same. Okay i apologize for i keep asking this but figured id ask here just in case someone who has the answer can help me out. Does anyone know where the values controlling ship start location etc for the battle viewer? It used to be in battlebehavior xml but that file does not exist in crusade. The reason i ask is in the Crusade battles the ships basically start on top of each other depending on their size or class. I am not sure if the battles sim like this or

Odd i even turned off mods thinking i had something lingering that would make this happen and played sim games against the ai. But any of the just created races with your ship designs from your mod still would shoot kinetic animations. Only way i could get the AI to animate the weapons equipped was to build it myself and then trade it to the AI and then it would animate properly. Oh well more testing. But thanks for the work

Can confirm even if you just use the designs they still only animate the kinetic red balls. Seems to be an issue with all designs coming from custom factions as GST has the same issue. Is there something special about those designs? Are they the originals or was something special done to them to get them to work with the custom factions? Because pretty much all designs downloaded off the workshop or user created animate just fine when added to custom civ and using

on #1 its something i have been crying about on the forums since almost day 1. Basically an unmodded game the AI#1 is awful at playing the game esp at higher difficulties. Im sure people who play normal barely care they are fighting an ai with lasers and starter weapons at turn 300 but shrug kinda stinks. My rants is more pre 2.3 so what im saying may be outdated/fixed as i am taking a break from trying to make crusade work but from the battle viewer being borked and the AI not

Also mainly focusing on my 2nd point on battles starting with the ships on top of each other. I tried to mod this like in Gc3 but it doesn't seem starting positions mean anything. Anyone have any luck or info on how i can actually make the starting fleets start apart and let the roles of the ships do their job in the viewer at least? I have no idea if battles are resolving properly since the bv isn't actually what is happening persay.

Quick question since i have not had a chance to install this yet. my GC crusade mod folders are a mess atm and working on cleaning it up. Did Crusade resolve the issue where all the custom faction ships just fire the red kinetic for their attack? Or are we still in a world were combat is just red balls being shot back and forth?

Did they come at you with Large Hulls with 8 dmg worth of lasers equipped while they have/had the resources to waste on useless crap? I swear when they did crusade they borked something that made the AI play awful. But since crusade is much slower grindy game compared to gc3 the average player probably doesn't even notice it. I am at 300 turns all godlike and even trying to mod the game so the Ai cannot build garbage they still are making garbage.

Think i figured it out. In the blueprints the required is enhanced and the filler is just the normal So for beam weapons its required enhancedbeamweapon but the filler is just beamweapon and in the defs it looks like crappy starter weapons are like lasers are beamweapon and all the good stuff is enhanced. Played another 400+ turns trying to see if i can get the AI to not just spam tiny and small ships with may 2-3 medium tech weapons and then tons of 1dmg starter filler weapons while having everything unlocked. I assume there is something wrong with the ship blueprints and the way GC3 handled the xml and now how crusade interprets things. Yup same game is lightning fast at first but then all of a sudden turns just get super long, way earlier than super long turns in gc3. Usually gc3 super long turns happened late enough in the game where there was enough going on in your turn that you could tab out or afk while the turn went. now in turns 100 or so when you are stil basically spamming turns / doing nothing on your turn. You are stuck waiting. In fact im waiting for a turn right now. At least the game is

yup tried all combos at lud and basically its like this you are stuck with 40-60 planets(with settings that got you 200ish in GC3) next combo up is 140ish planets then if you bring anything up boom 400+. Imo the way this is done is just too complicated for no good reason. Anyone know if there is a way to control/not allow ships in the battle viewer to shoot their weapons from wherever the feel like it? For example make a custom ship that has some weapon looking parts on it but then in the battle viewer your ship will shoot lets say its lasers out not just from where the weapon is placed on the ship but from all over the ship making it look silly. So i finally have a bunch of hours of seat time of the new expac and i have noticed that in all the games the AI is awful at managing resources and/or not using them. Really stinks to get into 200+ turns into a Godlike game and the AI is running around with all their ships still in crappy starter weapons with no signs of upgrading or making anything that makes sense. Is anyone else having issues with GST's custom tech trees or any custom tech trees? Whenever i go into the tech tree of any race the game will hang for around 4-5 min then eventually get to the tree. Tried both clean install live and opt in with only GST as only mod installed. I would assume people would be making noise if they were having this issue but worth a shot to ask.

No plans going back from Crusade. Imo just do w/e is easiest. The players who hate crusade will probably not hang around long even if a ton of work is put into gc3 and if they like og GC3 so much to quit Crusade the base game is fine for them anyways. I just had no idea there was soo much Crusade hate to justify so many dev posts so my guess, and i hope i am wrong, that they have some internal #s about Crusade that has them spooked?
