Ok, that explains why the animation doesn't play. But why don't the shields show up in the combat text?

Off Type Defenses Not Registering in Twilight of the Arnor GalCiv2 Forums

Running latest version of TA as updated through impulse. Recently was in a war with the Drath who use beam weaponry. I updated my ship designs to use shields to compensate. We eventually agreed on a ceasefire, but a few turns later the Yor declared war on me. Not having time to rebuild/redesign my fleets I sent them into battle against the Yor who use missile weapons. Shields are offtype defense but should still roll as the square root correct? I am getting no shield
