Black man says "nigger"... it's a way to preserve cultural identity amidst a sea of white people White man says "nigger"... he's a racist that promotes the oppression of blacks. A member of a culture/ethnic group is typically allowed to use the slurs, jokes, insults aimed at them freely, some say it's a defense mechanism, some say it's turning what was meant to be a negative term and turning it into something of a positive in a way sn

Those of us who work during the day didn't see the warning. Too bad, I would have picked up and taken a day or two off and visited friends back home
yeah, you can house all of the content and non-formatting code in an include file, and at the head of the main page, have a simple if statement that checks passed page variables, then picks the proper content file. Very simple.
Kobrano, You make a few bad assumptions in your posts... 1. Firefox is gaining 1-2% monthly and will therefore eventually overtake IE Sorry, that's just wrong. There is a limited portion of people who use the web who are concerned/knowledgeable enough to switch. These people are the vast majority still and are only slowly going away. It will be another generation before you see the majority of computer users being saavy enough
The issue of the gender gap in science has always puzzled me a bit... that is until I went to college and saw first-hand how they're attempting to "balance" the equation. I majored in IT. A predominantly male field. Now, in my major there were a LOT of girls... which is odd considering the normal ration you see in the workforce. At first I thought this was great! It meant that the gap was closing (and I would have a better chance at finding a date
I'm not trying to argue the relative technical merits of IE vs Firefox or anything else. In the end that argument falls to personal preference 100%. Which brings me back to the real point of this article... Mindshare and Marketshare. To those of you who simply "can't believe" anyone would willingly use IE and they must be morons for doing so, I have this to say to you: You are the reason normal people react poorly to IT folks in general. Get off yo
PHP has an editor called Zend Studio. It's a great tool and makes my life a lot easier when doing PHP work. As far as controls? No, there aren't really any built-in controls in the same way as what ASP has. But to be honest, I think most of those controls get in the way of what you're really trying to do. The table controls? God those things make me want to scream! Yeah, PHP has been around longer, but even when comparing the official ma
Later this month, Netscape (AOL) will be releasing a beta version of their latest browser version… Netscape 8. This time though the browser has a rather odd parentage. Let’s look at the overall progression of the Netscape browser line. Each item is based on the item before it. NCSA Mosaic -> Netscape 1-7 -> Mozilla -> Firefox -> Netscape 8 So now,
The response to Part 1 here was better than I could have possibly expected. I was given a very simple answer to what I thought was a complex problem based on what every ASP.NET help site out there told me. What my ASP.NET book told me was a page and a half of code to do, a helpful reader (mick_k) showed me
I think you're WAY off JTurnas. I disagree with Brad on a lot of his political views... strongly in some cases. However, I'm capable of separating out political views from the person, the person and from the company itself. I buy Stardock games and tools regardless of Brad's personal opinions. He could worship the Great Duck Feebleflob who visits him in his dreams in the form of a rubber duckie... doesn't make GalCiv any less fun, or cause Deskto
As far as doing it in two lines, because I'm rarely just redisplaying a passed variable, I usually assign it to a new variable from the POST data and then manipulate/display that information. Makes it a bit more readable too IMO.
While not a parent myself, I did have the benefit of watching my best friend as he and his wife went through the first year or so of their daughter's life. I was over there most evenings and afternoons helping out when I could, or just keeping them company (and sane) otherwise. The thing they discovered when their baby wouldn't eat was to not force it. If she won't eat, chances are she isn't hungry right at that moment. If she refuses, take
It's a strategy game in that you manage resources (money), units (the people) and a base (your house). It's a strategy game in the same way Myst could be considered a RPG. You can make the argument, but most gamers will consider it ridiculous. Glad the media tour went so well this week... I loved the previews, video and screenshots. I can't wait for the beta to start in March! It seems like such a long ways away.
BIG cookie for you! I couldn't find that anywhere on the ASP.NET sites I found and it wasn't in my huge ASP.NET book. Thank you for saving me from the past few hours of frustration!!
I'm also starting on a diet/exercise routine... I didn't realize that my daily coffee habit was doing me so much harm too... I used to drink it black all the time, but got out of the habit recently... time to go back it seems. Good luck losing weight!
Alright, at work I've been told I have to build a web tool that takes a 40 question survey, analyzes the answers given, then based on the answers generate custom content from a large stack of documents. Fair enough. The catch is I have to do it in ASP.NET, and not PHP because ASP.NET is supported by IT whereas PHP is not (despite the fact that IT runs serveral PHPNu
chalk this one up as an important lesson in good computing practices... Never use a public computer for anything sensitive, and if you do always be sure to log out. Too many people use a public computer in a day for it to be even remotely safe.
Great write-up on IGN about GalCiv 2 today Is the trailer they have on the site the actual (and final) intro cinematic?
My point wasn't to say that it's OK to post lies as facts, my point was that this is someone's personal space much the same as your blog is your personal space. I've seen posts like this take many forms here, on livejournal and other blog sites. I don't like attempts to establish rules on how people should blog. I know no one here is saying there are XYZ rules for posting, but the feeling is there nonetheless. You're all saying that everyone who po
Technically it's not, no. But, given the recent Dan Rather and CBS memo incident, it's getting harder and harder to deny the impact that blogging can have. Also, when you consider that this site is syndicated to one of the most popular search engines on the internet....I just don't think it advisable to tell lies and try to pas
The way I look at it is as follows: 1) Given an audience, people will say whatever is on their mind 2) Most thoughts and daily occurances people have are boring as hell 3) People want their stories to be interesting and engaging... they want responses and feedback Combine the three, and you have a perfect recepie for fiction. Now, remember that most fiction is also based somewhat in truth. Most people start out intending to
can't wait for beta either, but how to get a hold of it. That is the question. *Zoomba hugs his TG.Net subscription*
I think you end up getting attacked not buecause of your politics, but because of your condescending and insulting tone in many of your political postings. Extremism is often seen not as the position, but the attitude and vigor with which one tries to promote/defend it.
So... when do we get a crack at the beta? It's amazing how good the game looks this early into development!
My problem with pure creationism (i.e the 6-day model) is that we have NOTHING to back it up aside from a parable, an abbreviated story at the beginning of the Bible.
