For some reason, nebulae really slow down things here, down to something like 10 fps when fully zoomed in. Switching off particles fixes the issue, but makes nebulae and elerium invisible.

When trading for the "free agent" tech, it has no effect. Also confirm the tech trading exploitation with respect to credit amounts, as well as a lack of automatically adding the correct amount required to balance (it tends to be about 30 credits low).
Freespace 1 and 2
I wholeheartedly recommend FreeSpace 2. Not only is it a great game, but the "FreeSpace Source Code Project" and "FreeSpace Upgrade Project" have improved the engine and graphics a huge amount from its original release. Also, there are a large number of user-made campaigns available, and some of these are outstanding (War in Heaven for instance). There's even an upgraded FreeSpace 1 campaign.

I'm afraid I was very dull - "Maxwell" in honour of James Clark Maxwell.
I think it is good to mention here that the decision of which core or thread gets which task really ultimately belongs to the OS. I think there are some things that the SD devs can do to influence those decisions, but the control they have is not total. In short: I would never expect the load imposed by any game on any system to be totally balanced across all cores/threads.
Of course, I'm just
Good to see it's not just me. I'll put my plans for an upgrade on hold (for a bit anyway). I'm sure things will be optimised, I wasn't expecting perfection with an alpha. Indeed it's surpassed my expectations (no crashes yet).
Firstly, I'd like to say how brilliant the α is, it works really well, and I look forward to the next few months (once my exams are over, anyway) I don't have a hugely powerful CPU (Phenom II 965), and the framerate in the game is not great. I realise it's not hugely important in a TBS, but it's still annoying. I had a look at the CPU usage of the game, and I found that two threads were occupying ~100% of a CPU core's time each. This happens in t
I noticed that my processor was in use for 70-80% the whole time. Even when nothing happened and it was waiting on me to press the button for the next turn. It is ofcourse not optimised yet, but I wonder where the cpu power goes to
More or less the same here, two cores at ~100% all the time (Phenom II 965) with the other two about 40%. EDIT: Forgot to say it looks wonderful.
Laplace or something along those lines.
