We were playing with no custom races and no custom ships.
Intrepidation
Tried for a couple hours last night to get multiplayer working with the latest and greatest. We had 2 human players and two AI players on a huge map. Can never make it past turn 20 or so. We finally gave up. It appears that the turns get slower and slower, as we go. It always seems to stop on the host players turn waiting on the AI.
This one hit me today as well.
We are still trying to get it to work properly with 2 human players, let alone more than 2.

I am having the same issues with the opt-in beta.
I haven't had the UP start in any of my beta 5 games yet.
My current game has 110 colonies and 156 starbases, setting rally points is a pain!
I still have the problem but not as often. I am about 500+ turns into a game and it has gotten stuck 3 times where I had to reload an auto-save to continue.
It only took me 450 turns working towards a tech victory before I discovered that it's impossible to get Cultural Affinity since Research-Focused, Approval-Focused and Wealth-Focused Culture are disabled for beta. Tech victory should probably be disabled for beta. It's odd as I believe it was possible in earlier betas. Playing as the Altarians in Immense galaxy.

What should the version number show in the lower right hand corner, I am not convinced that my game was patched.
There's a little bar-graph at the bottom of the tech screen that shows your progress through the tech ages.
I have played about 200 turns on immense while doing some development work on my other monitor with no issues. I too have VS2013 installed. i7 with 16 GB, GeForce GTX 660, 2 1920x1080 monitors, Win 7, 256GB SSD
I agree with leiavoia 100%. Colonization is way too easy. I don't know if anyone here has played the board game Space Empires 4X (awesome game BTW). There are hidden sectors in outer space where you ship can be instantly destroyed. It really makes you think twice about expanding too fast until you have the exploration tech required to scan the area.
I want a good PBEM mode too. With work, kids, etc. it's difficult for my friends and I to all be available at the same time for the length of a game. We still play Alpha Centauri via PBEM.
I ran into this as well with the Terrans.
I would LOVE to have a campaign server mode.

I have had partial success fixing this problem by saving the game then reloading.

I play Ascendancy on the iPAD, pretty fun game.
Every game I have played with medium or large size galaxy has crashed ( haven't tried smaller galaxy sizes ). It always crashes between turn 200 and 400. In no case was the map fully colonized. Win 7, i7-4771, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GTX660
