Diplomacy will happen, just not this month.
Oh, I know it's going to happen eventually. It's just hard for me to get enthusiastic about the release of a beta version that doesn't have it yet.

I have to say, I'm not that excited about this - for me, 4X games lose a lot without diplomacy.
If Lord Kona thinks, that he'll beat the Yor, then he should think again. He doesn't stand a chance against the highly efficient and powerful Yor Colle... eh Singularity.
I've been like 95% certain for years that the Yor are going to successfully backstab the Drengin and wind up as the ultimate antagonist of the series (well, them or the Terran Crusade). There's more than a little evidence suggesting i
Honestly, the only 4X game I can think of where the races aren't just broadly-drawn stereotypes is Sword of the Stars, and that's debatable. The Drengin aren't any more one-note then anyone else, and they're so over the top it's entertaining. Also, as Gaunathor notes, we do know a lot about the ways in which they're one-dimensionally evil. And I think it fits together pretty well (for instance, 5 may explain why they hate humans so much).
GalCiv II had an option to tone down the nebulae. There'll probably be one here as well.
While it was definitely inferior in a strictly by-the-numbers sense (which is not how I play), I never found playing good to be difficult. I'm not sure where the people saying it was are coming from.
The problem is its hard to define a 'good mechanic' in broad terms. A mechanic that works in A, may not work in game B. Even in any game, each mechanic needs to be tweaked and adjusted. You never come up with the magic right off the bat. It's an iterative process. ANd it's also hard to tell the difference between 1) This mechanic is sound we just need to find the sweet spot or <br /
I can't figure out how to see the "Brad Feedback 031014" file. It says it's a PDF, but it's not opening like one.
Quoting Rhonin_the_wizard, reply 4And is he the same person as Alan Bradley, the default leader of the Terrans from GC2? No, there is no relation between the two. Frogboy said so before.
I've always sort of theorized that they were a single character split in two, though.
What the heck is a "walking misconception of ignorance"?
I'd like to cast another vote in support of an in-game "lore" encyclopedia. And may I say that it's great to finally get some details on the much-hinted-at Iridium Corporation. A bit surprised that "Iridium" is actually their species name, as I had assumed it was referring to the element.
Quoting Rhonin_the_wizard, reply 1Is this the member of a new civilization? Or just concept art. That's the "new" look of the Krynn. At least according to the name of that picture in the Founder's Vault.
I can see the resemblance pretty easily.
One thing I don't understand. If you had options for different levels of combat that you could change at any time, such as: Level 0 -- Absolute auto resolve Level 1 -- Combat viewer -- like GC2. Level 2 -- Some combat control -- like the devs have described for GC3. ' ' Level x -- Ship by ship total control combat -- like MOO2. If th
Other new starbase features include unique styles for each race and unique starbase modules. Fleets can now dock at a starbase, much like they can garrison friendly planets. Players can also add multiple constructor modules on a Constructor ship now.
Woooo!
Personally, I don't think the Drengin are very realistic; they have more in common with orcs than what I'd consider what aliens would most likely be. But it's just beyond ridiculous to make confident assertions as to what aliens must be like when we have absolutely nothing to base that on. (And as for evolutionary psychology, everything we know about it comes from Earth life. There are a few things likely to be universal constants - we'll never see a species
Maybe they're all actually the same "guy".
What can you tell us about how random events will work? Will they be divided into categories like the "normal" and "mega events" in GCII? About how many are there going to be, and how often are they likely to occur (and is that adjustable)? What exactly happened to the Korath? They aren't mentioned in the Civilizations databank as either a current or former civilization. Will they be playable or appear in some other fashion, or are they just gone? And since no one else has
Quoting Illauna, reply 116 Quoting Frogboy, reply 112Cari, the lead developer of all our games (other than War of Magic) is on extended maternity leave. I'm not the lead developer on GalCiv. My area is AI and UI and helping on design elements. Regarding the backstory, this has all been planned, seriously, over 20 years now. Draginol, the Mithrilar, has a name that is derived from a beginning and an en
So (not that it's really needed) there's some further evidence for this in the form of recent comments about Altarian subcultures and why the new leader looks different. Although I'm still inclined to stand by my position that they are not literally the same.
Quoting Frogboy, reply 69There's still some internal discussion as to what to call the Altarians because they're not really a Republic. Akari rules as a dictator at this point. Dictator in the modern sense of tyrant abusing power, or in classic title for magistrate in ancient Rome appointed by the Senate to rule in times of trouble?
I would suspect somewhere in the middle. Self-appointed but
Surprised by the apparent controversy this has caused. I just figured "Elsys" Mue for a typo and the seemingly-blue skintone for the lighting. At any rate, I have to say that sure, it's nice to hear that the Altarians are doing comparatively all right, but what I really want is to hear about those new civilizations already! "Coming soon" indeed, grumblegrumble. Also, as far as I'm concerned: bring on the factions! It offers interesting possibilities for custom
A visual thing: in GC 2 after you designed nice ships for everyone you found that the AI had the annoying habit to place weapons, engines, defenses and other upgrades in rather absurd spots and sizes, which often resulted in very strange looking AI ships. Maybe there could be something done to mitigate this prob, for example a size limit for those upgrades or the option to turn them to invisible. I'm not really sure if that&
Interesting that he's aged so much in what has been indicated to be only a 10-20 year period. Given that mere humans have developed such effective lifespan-enhancing technology (as per the civilizations page), you'd think the Drengin certainly would have. I guess brutally crushing the known galaxy beneath your heel can take a lot out of a guy.
Quoting Gaunathor, reply 8 The Iridium Corporation, for instance, was always part of the series’ lore but never a playable race. Boyer notes that “they are essentially ultra-capitalists, like if Apple was a race that was going to take over the universe”. So, what makes them different from the Korx then? In any case, I like the new UI. It looks pretty good. Everything is clear, and ea
I always had the impression that Elemental is based on or inspired by Altarian prehistory (since the GalCiv universe long predates the GalCiv games) but is not actually meant to represent it. There's too many conventional fantasy elements (ahem) that don't quite fit: for instance, I think it's mentioned in one of the Drath techs in TA that there is no mammalian life on Altaria apart from the Altarians. I think they're two different
