I am fairly certain there was no auto-attack in GC2. The only thing that comes close is the option to not show battles between ship vs ship and fleet vs ship.

How will Assimilation Treaties work? Is tech trading working as intended? I can't seem to get any of the exclusive techs from other civilizations. Would we be able to make an opposing civ our vassal? Essentially they wouldn't interact with other civs, not build colony ships, and would not culture flip to their owner.

Did you trade for any techs with the AI before completing this research? I think that is the cause.
The Ascension Gate is actually an upgrade, Research Cloisters>Quantum Research Foundation>Ascension Gate.

I'd like it if the AI would decommission shipyards no longer in it's territory and I think we shouldn't even see the rally points of other players.

The cause of this could be a UP resolution that bans colonization of new planets. Check the UP if this was passed.
