I can't believe all of these people are saying basically "you can't prove anything with numbers." As if their anecdote about getting creamed by Erebus because they ran into the middle of his towers when he had 10 night-walkers up and he bit them so they couldn't escape fast enough has any weight... Fact is that if you take thousands of matches by thousands of players over weeks of time, and average out the win/loss ratio, a balanced demigod should come close to 50%. Erebus comes
Client-Server games with thousands of players on a single server can be much more difficult to troubleshoot. Sadly, Demigod is a P2P game. So Stardock servers don't see exchanged packets during the game.
That's why I'm proposing this setup to Frogboy as a way to allow his QA team to see all of the traffic going to/from each client during testing sessions. I realize that Demigod is P2P, bu
True, but there seems to be a widespread assumption that public Pantheon statistics are the only statistics that the balance team have to go on. I'd be very surprised if that were the case.
Public Pantheon stats are probably the most reliable because the random map and win conditions mean that nobody can pick the map that they're most likely to win on. If it's truly random, then individual demigod/hero imbalances will begin to show.

Very good post. It should be required reading before posting any "Nerf X" threads. Another thing that should be required reading before posting any "Nerf X" threads is this: http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/demigods/ You can't argue with numbers. I have seen more "Nerf Erubus" threads than any other. I'm not sure why this is. Possibly because people t
Hey we appreciate the update Frogboy. Looks like Raknet is getting replaced, which I think will be a good thing. Personally if it was my game, I would never trust a 3rd party network library unless I had tested it extensively. I wanted to recommend to you for testing network games in the future, you really need to get WAN simulators. You can buy expensive commercial ones, or make your own with a Linux box and a few NICs. Basically they allow you to turn up the

First of all, great game. Hats off to GPG and Stardock for an incredibly addictive and fun to play game. Personally I haven't experienced a lot of connection issues in Multiplayer because I know how to forward ports, however, the design of the game does create some issues that wouldn't be there on Battle.net, because it doesn't allow us to host servers. I understand that Stardock wanted to design the multiplayer component so that it didn't require users to forward ports
Brad, I really respect you in the industry. Your pioneering work on Sins of a Solar Empire has forged a lot of new ground. In any case, I have to take you to task just a little bit on your net code: Demigod’s setup is similar to GPGNet with a couple critical differences. First, to get into the lobby you currently have to connect to everyone who is in the lobby before getting into the lobby. However, if you enter the
