The excessive and insane maps were never supposed to be played with less than 16 gigs of memory. If you have 4 gigs of memory you are not supposed to play on maps bigger than large. The minimum for ludicrous was 12 gigs of memory. These were the original specs for the game. They are pretty beefy for the largest maps.

They have merely only answered some questions stating that all they might do is give you a game, and modernised others for your use to freely distribute.
