But in those reboots you still have Spider Man, Uncle Ben, the Daily Bugle, Green Goblin, etc. This would be like rebooting Spider Man as a middle aged guy in Paris named Marcel Berger who works in advertising, wears a brown trench coat and fedora instead of a costume, occasionally fights street crime, and collects spiders as a hobby.
Challenge #1: IS Star Control Star Control without the Spathi?
No, of course not. Why would it be? If you take away everything that makes an IP what it is, is it still that IP? Even if you make a game that is 100% identical to Star Control in every way except the lore, then all you have is a clone that isn't Star Control. I think this is what OktoberStorm was getting at. That's not to say you can't make a great ga

I picked it up over the weekend and have been enjoying it. There are some progression/balance issues, much like the speed stat already mentioned, an herbs issue (it is better to not pull herbs until you skill is L30), and some class progression/balance issues. The story is fairly straightforward and basic thus far, and the voice acting is passable, but even still I find myself pushing forward. If you enjoyed combat in the early CRPGs, like the Wizardry series, th
They just need to tweak a few things. Like DivineWrath said, make it to where you really need to overpower the opposing planet's influence. Also, there should be buildings and technologies that reduce opposing influence. And of course, like GalCivII, the AI should eventually go to war with you if you start flipping too many of their planets (especially if you drop a few space stations next to a few of their planets), so long as ships have a chance to flip while in your t
I like that screenshot. :) While I do enjoy the create-a-unit from the older Elemental games, I must say that the units in SK are looking mighty sexy. The UI seems much improved as well, and the terrain is a bit more crisp. And, most importantly, the unit selection and movement squares are much more visible. The art and UI team(s) have really done a good job.
It seems to me that the gaming industry is taking the position that every customer is a potential pirate, and that's just sad.
It took that stance years ago. As for what The_Gear is saying, Steam is offering a service that does X. People are upset that it doesn't do Y or Z, even though it is only stated to do X. Now, adding the ability to do Y or Z would be great, but those features are not in
Thanks to everyone working hard on the game! But I have to ask, "What is this f**king tie business?" :) (and if you don't get the quote, then I has a sad for you)
Stick with Elemental. Sure, it had a rocky start, but everything is fine now. While I'm still not a fan of WoM, I think FE and LH more than make up for it, and I feel that Stardock has more than made up for it. While SK is doing something different, I would not be opposed to linking it to Elemental somehow, perhaps via subtitle.
Just saw this on Steam and thought, "I wonder if Stardock knows that there is a game coming out that looks just like Elemental." Then I saw that is WAS Stardock. Oh, this must be the new game announcement scheduled for today. :) From the screenshots, it looks like a much crisper and cleaner (less muddy and washed-out) Elemental, which I like. The new creatures and models look good, as do their animations. I'll try and add this to my library in a week
Haven't had a chance to load up the app, but the web store seems different just for the sake of being different. My biggest complaint is now I need to load up a different screen and use a filter just to see new releases. If I could give one suggestion to said list, it would be to add an Early Access icon, so I can see which games are still in development, and it would inform me that the current reviews are for the EA version of the game. This can be very informative.&n
1. Trade agreements (allow trade routes), trade/gift/request specific resources (any resource), military access/open borders, defensive pact, non-aggression, research agreement, form/dissolve alliance, negotiate peace (via any resource available), declare war, request faction go to war/peace with, insult/compliment. I would love to see the ability to goad two factions into declaring war on each other. 2. Hard to say. I've enjoyed short games that take a day, and

Good info, thanks for the update! I'm looking forward to all of those titles. :)
Great news!
Awesome news. Welcome aboard!
Its too early for me to tell. Once the rest of the game gets closer to completion I think I'll have a better opinion on the Ages. If the game was purely based on combat and military victory, then I would say that the Ages, as they are, could use some work. But, like I said, there are still a ton of options missing from the game, so I'm not going to theorize how the Ages may or may not work in 6 months.
Doom is still a ton of fun (though I do recommend getting the ZDoom mod which adds the Z-Axis to your mouse look), and once you get bored with that you go grab the Brutal Doom mod and take it to the next level. :)
This is one of the few games I helped Kickstart, and I'm very glad I did. This has been one of the best CRPGs I've played since Ultima VII.
Going for realism, especially 3D, is the quickest way to look dated. Cardinaldirection hit it on the head, you need stylization and great art direction throughout the entire product. Games will always start to look dated the moment they are released, but with great art direction the can still look good a decade or more later. When looking at LH specifically, you are mixing cell shaded and non cell shaded objects. Cities, players and dead trees are cell shaded, then y
There has been some discussion on the forums about the Borders of each civilization. The sphere (blob) of influence being seen as your territorial border vs. a cultural border. Are there going to be any changes on how Galactic Civilization is going to deal with the borders?
As a fan of cultural expansion, I too would be curious to see how they plan on dealing with this.
