Seeing as when this thread was started i cant believe this is still a problem and that NO ONE has said anything to us about it. That just makes me despise a company. Horrible business practice IMO and i probably wont be buying anymore games from theese companies unless this adressed soon. 1 - Total Annihilation - It broke onto the RTS scene as the zenith of perfection, and is still pretty much at the very top of the pile. It introduced so many new things that completely shaped modern RTS games...and they all worked! 2 - Supreme Commander - Ok mister Taylor, you are the RTS god. Any game that doesn't have strategic zoom just doesn't feel good enough to me now. Thousands of units for the closest true strategy game around. 3 - Dune 2 - Not the first
And I vote for a rule that digital downloads should be enforced to be atleast 15% cheaper than the retail package. By the way I will NOT use Impulse to buy games here (in the EU) if the price is the same in euros. Not only do I think it is bullshit, but like you said I'd rather order them from websites that do offer them for normal prices. This is not a Stardock rant though, I know at this time they can not do much about it.<br /
pffft $200? I refuse to pay more than $50 for a game...which entertains me, i'll be damned if i'm going to pay $200 for an OS that will (without fail) cause me grief time and time again. Most PC's in the world are old, they are old because people either don't enjoy spending hundreds on constant upgrades or simply can't. The majority of sane people arn't going to want to pay that sort of money for an OS and will just pirate instead. You'd think MS
Seems a bit odd that your system would be struggling with Demigod even on Low. The graphics card (ignoring the extortionate X2 models) is the second best on the market performance wise and the gb of memory will come in handy at high res. Aslong as it doesn't die on you, you can get a good 3 years more out of it before requiring an upgrade (i still run a 312mb 8800gts and it handles everything fine). HD and Memory are fine, though to maximize it you should be&nbs
Dead ghost: play a game in windowed mode, note down the precise times when the freezes are occuring then track down those times in the chart. You should be able to find a common action the game is attempting (for example in my own logs the game is attempting a TCP connection to Stardock servers everytime it occurs). EDIT: I've just gone over your log, if i am correct (hopefully you can validate this), you should have experienced freezes at the following times... 18:16:19, 18:1
Ooze is a wonderful skill (I use an Ooze/grasp build). Its the perfect Creep control which allows for fast levelling, perfect for chasing down the opponent (as soon as they begin to retreat, use grasp to stun and keep them within the Ooze's range for added damage) and at 140DPS is equal to Spits damage all the while slowing down the AS of your opponent. All you need is the items to offset the 50dps you recieve and its a very nice combination.
Sounds like a possible cause of the "spiking" effect. Shame you discovered this after Yarlen pissed me off, already processing the refund! :D Maybe when things improve i'll re-purchase.
Frogboy, will making the game a client/server style game fix the issues people are having with supposed ISP p2p limiting? For example one of my good friends plays 2v2 fine, but in 3v3 he is constantly spiking from 100ms to 1000ms.
This is nothing to do with p2p limiting from ISP's (they would be "limiting" 1v1 just as much as 2v2 or 3v3, its all p2p in their eyes), its a problem with the Game.
Just to clarify...Protocepts problem was -never- the spiking issue, it was simply not enough bandwidth from the beginning (he had a max of around 13KB/s too low for the game to handle more than 2/3 players).

Well, play a 3v3 and double the upload figure. Probably be just under that. Never managed a 5v5 myself so i couldn't say.
Well the game transfers information to other players through UDP, but communicates with the NAT server with TCP. Why its happening, who knows. I just look at hundreds of thousands of neon lines to find some common occurance. :P EDIT: Should just mention this is purely speculation ya know, could be utter coincidence that this always occurs with attempts to transfer data to stardock. EDIT2: As far as i am aware (And any network savvy person feel free to contradict m
The security provided by a NAT is comparable to a firewalled router, its not exactly hard to come by and can't be considered a "serious" security measure. NAT has a laundry list of problems with it and little to no positives (other than allowing IPv4 to continue functioning, which in itself is also a negative).
While at first i was looking at my ISP its now switched back to Stardock/Demigod. I've been monitoring latency, packetloss and the packets themselves (types, destinations etc). Every spike comes along at the same time the game is sending Application Data to Stardock. Frogboy confirmed the IP was Stardocks NAT. From what Monk and others have told me, this issue was apparent in the Beta. I can only assume because the game is sending TCP data to the server and not getti
I'm a MUDer, trying to react to 75+ lines scrolling on the screen each second is very difficult (nigh on impossile) so to compensate for this we use healing systems (series of triggers, variables etc) which do the reactions for us. The problem is you are fighting against other people who don't react in the same ways to similar situations. Even a simple game like a MUD requires upwards of 10k lines of code just to "heal" automated afflictions and states, never mind factor in and predict an opp
You won't find a solution to it on your end, its purely Stardock at fault and it will require them to fix it. Just going to have to hold your hats and pray they fix it quickly.
Thanks for the quick reply Kryo. I think I was looking at old system requirements that stated I would only need an x800 to run the game. Anyone have a sub-200 PCI-E x16 card to recommend?
Sub 200 what? Lots of currencies out there ya know :D Assuming you mean dollars, you can probably get an 48XX ATI for under that no problem. a 4770 is a very nice card with great performance for around $125 too.
If any of you haven't already, try the router settings Brad advised in his journal from last night.
Buy me a router and i will. *ducks* As i showed in my post, whenever these spikes occur the game is attempting to transfer Application data to Stardock (why is the game sending anything to Stardock in the first place?). Ur cloggin mah tubes!
On point 4 check this thread, seems you are suffering from the "lag spike" issue like many of us. http://forums.impulsedriven.com/349642
Exactly, Employee's and Employers. Employee's get paid to do what the Employers tell them too. If they do well they might get a bonus, a raise etc If they do badly they get fired. Employers get paid by customers for their product. If their product is good, they make lots of money. If its bad, they lose money and go out of business. There is nothing wrong with this picture, you seriously believe every Employer in the entertainment industry deserves to make a profit
So only people good enough at their job (in your eyes) deserve to be paid? Cretin.
I'm afraid you appear to be the cretin. The vast majority of movies made are utter shit. The vast majority of games made are utter shit and polluted with invasive DRM. The only method you have to avoid this raging torrent of shit is through the raging torrents of piracy. It also gives you the consumer a method of telling the companies who make this tripe and shovel it down your throat that you are not amused. Make a good movie, a good game...and you will make a profit.
