Another thing: the AI doesn't concentrate defenders at any of its planets. It seems to build military until it thinks things are "good enough", but it doesn't seem to understand that my single fleet of 5 medium ships is never going to be damaged by a single small craft, so its supposed "huge army" is scattered everywhere, unable to make a dent in me. The AI also doesn't seem to value speed very much, so it continues to build small ships with no FTL drive, even once it has Medium s

Right now, the devs are hard at work getting the game ready for Steam Workshop support, so you'll have to understand if other things get left to the side until after 1.1. Once the workshop support is done, they can get to work on another big challenge, such as the invasion screen, which is going to be a big challenge.
Hi guys, I expereinced the never ending wait bug. I followed the instructions and went to Beta, but nothing dropped out... The box where we can choose which beta we can opt into couldn't expand. I purchased this game early, and I would like to know if there's a code or not for the beta.
Heh, you necro'd a post from WAY back in early beta. There's no code to opt-in, if there's an
Having said that, I just tried to start a new game with my custom race mod, and it's no longer listed. (and when I hover over quick start which would have that race selected, the game crashes to desktop). But I was playing from a saved game that I started with that mod/race with 1.03, so i wonder if they snuck in another update.
Indeed, there WAS an update this evening. It was a hotfix that included a fi

Something else weird happened. The entire structure of the My Games\GalCiv3 folder has changed, but it's missing a few things. It's not consistent. There's now a Factions folder next to the Mods folder, and the game DOES accept things in this folder, but it doesn't accept whole mods, particularly custom factions that were created through the Mods folder. It's as though it's been changed to resemble what 1.1 is looking for, but the implementation is incomplete, so the g

My custom faction works, but that's the only mod I'm using. Strange. Wonder what caused this? EDIT: Wait! I just updated. My custom faction is gone. A different custom faction that was made using the in-game editor is still there, however.

I had an idea for my custom faction: underwater bases! Explicit underwater bases, not just terraform-anywhere. So when I went to mod it in, the game yelled at me because LandPercentageMax was not a valid parameter. If it became one, it could be used for coastal reclamation and undersea bases. It might also have other applications. Fortunately, my Faction can totally work without it, it just would have been neat fluff. So, I bring it here... because it would be really neat fluff!

If TV tropes is to be believed, GC2's AI was bloody brilliant. As for me? It's been so long since I've played GC2, and I don't think I've ever won a game, so I can't comment on it, but from reading several AARs, it certainly looked like the AI was smarter than average, and that's half the battle.

That might be a good idea for a TC mod. However, despite common interpretations stating otherwise, not all terraforming involves re-forming the entire planet, and one could argue that the Ultra Terraformer IS exactly that, while the others are just incremental measures that, say, purify the soil or build a dome/air scrubber that makes desolate patches of the planet habitable. If you Terraformed the Gobi Desert into a grassland, for example, that might be what Soil Enhancement is (you can tota
Yeah, I agree that the terraforming tile model doesn't really make sense in reality. On the other hand, it does make for more interesting and balanced gameplay, which I value a little more. Maybe there is a middle ground where we can have both realistic rules and interesting/balanced gameplay. Unfortunately, I'm at a loss here. For the choice to be meaningful, you have to be stuck with it for a while, but as

If you look at the most recent patch, your #1 issue is getting fixed. The rest will come. Be patient. More importantly, be polite. The rest of us ask about our issues too, but we don't act like it's the end of the world, we ask if it's a priority and if there's a

I always end up missing these, but I've got a few burning questions this week. 1) Are there plans to allow the game to search mod folders for sound/music, custom planet assets, and graphics? Currently, all custom planet assets must be placed inside the main game folders, and sound/music/non-faction graphics must be placed outside of the Mods directory entirely, if it works at all. 2) Is there any ETA to when the game will allow custom flavor text to be added without over-w
It would also appear they need to do something similar for adding sound.
I managed to add Music to the game by placing the Music folder outside of the Mods folder in the My Documents location.
Here we go again yes, but rightfully so. The game will continue to be broken until the silly stacking is fixed. I do not understand how people are against fixing such a gamey / cheesy / exploitive / blatantly overpowered mechanic which removes ALL of the whole exploration thing - you know, that whole first X in the genre's name.
I'm against fixing it because I only play on Gigantic maps and above, and

Got a reply on my ticket. The devs are on it.
Hello, This is working as designed. You will need to replace the file as you mentioned before. There is a feature request in to the developers to add in a better way to do this, however. So they definitely understand your position and believe it can be better. Please let me know if you have any further questions/concerns. Brad Ather Custo
