@iggore someone in an earlier post in this thread said they did not like the snarky comments. I was replying to that particular alien's comment. For me, "snark" is a vital ingredient in multi-civilization/race/alien species type games.

Tradition! "GalCiv games shall have diplomats who make humorous comments." :) I like the humor in galciv, in part, because much of it seems a result of cross species misunderstandings, or just plain lack of common empathy ("...bet your skin would taste delicious"). Kinda like politicians chatting, not suspecting that the innocent mike on the podium just might be 'on.' LOL. This is another case for allowing customization at game set up via sl
You are mostly water. I have a quote ready from Star Trek NG but people may think I'm being mean. Seriously not too many people will care what they are made up of. They are made of pixels and great imagination. Enough for me.
Agree. That was my point about GalCiv being a fantasy game.
Actually, I think the idea of having many types of 'heros' available via luck, training, (admirals from a naval academy for example) is an excellent idea. Governors with special talents, (or negatives..). Various naval leaders could train there fleet to engage in certain tactics and strategies. This would unlock, for that fleet, some options when going into battle, that generic, untrained, and leaderless fleet would lack. So, decisions about choices when going
... I'm not real sure why I was offended. I think it had something to do with all that talk about amino acids. Both of my parents were shot and killed by an amino acid one night as we were exiting a theatre. It happened right in front of me, so you can see how I might have been a little freaked out by your post, which clearly glorifies amino acids by painting them as nothing short of folk heroes.
&nb
I wasn't talking about modding. Although I could see why the comments might be understood to imply that. All I'm suggesting is that i like a game to be as customizable as possible, at the level of game set up. I prefer games with check boxes (or sliders) that let me turn on or off many of the non-essential aspects. When you have seen the animated ambassadors from Yor, (or East Burlap), 100 times, its my preference to be able to disable (turn off) those animatio
@starhawk11 yes, that is part of what I was suggesting. TF, squad, fleet = one descrete unit being built, moved on game map, but actually is a group of ships. Each unit, depending on its design (mix of ships, tech, leaders assigned, training, would have a set of options for movement and especially when in battle.
Introduction: I'm just past 60, retired. Had two careers. First, Ordained Methodist (protestant/christian) clergy, and second, Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. I've always loved strategy games because they keep my rapidly running mind busy - distracting me from all the things I can't fix (make fairer) in the world. Played the original Chainmail , the paper and pencil game that inspired the original Dungeons and Dragons . Now
sneak, as in, its the cat's fault :) :) :o
eventually all your old posts will update you your new avatar. I'm clueless as to how and when and how long. However, mine eventually did, so i suspect this is (will be) true for everyone else.
Quick questions re: x-com enemy unknown / help! How actually make a save game? The documentation does not tell user how to access save game menu. Finally found it... 'esc' key. However, I still can't actually name a save game. i can see the empty save game slot, I can click in it with mouse... but nothing lets me enter text to name the proposed save game. When I attempt to throw a gernade, my mouse moves very fast and wildly over the b
Quoting antibor, reply 7 Emm, like the Yor eating sandwiches? Be careful with your wishes. The Drengin eat Torians. But probably only recently. They like eating any fleshy organism (but are they cannibalistic? I don't remember seeing anything about them eating their own species.)
Who knows what really goes on behind closed doors on Yor controlled worlds. Actually, b
'Я согласен с тобой. Космические бои должны быть эпичными, чтобы действительно чувствовать что ты бьёшься за галактику...' I agree, epic battles! The fate of the galaxy, of all truly civilized societies, is at stake. Additionally, I would like to see some sort of overall fleet, task force, management system in place when, at the beginning (or in preparation for) a battle, the players may select from a set of tactics, strategems, strategies their side will att
Thank you. I now see the distinction between 'live broadcast' (twitch) and uploading a per-recorded vid. New area for me - was confused. Thank you! I will also check on MSI afterburner. I have been learning to use open broadcast software - and the tutorial went into twitch settings. hence my confusion. Kudos! :) edit; thank you unbralangel... very good info/vid! :)
This is a fantasy game. Who know what exotic (to us) arrangements 'nature' has concocted in other solar systems? Or in pocket universes? Just make up interesting 'stuff' about the factions' / species' respective biological and technological distinctivenesses. Oh, did I mention its a fantasy game? :)
Even more important: the thumbs are 'opposable.' :)
I'm with you Admiral, I watched several YouTube playthrus of DW before I committed.
Yes, balancing it would require some real fine tuning. Survival instincts might mitigate against security issues or other species related core values. In RL, I have been following the interesting possible pandemic risks related to the Chinese flu issues, and the (I forget the infection name) related to massive numbers of people pilgrimaging to Mecca. In both cases, the governments are not as forthcoming in a timely manner about infection rates, etc. as some might wish. The WHO, (W
Saw a new game called Horizons, a 4x turn based space empire building game. Web site info is interesting, but playing is the real test. Anyone played? Whats your experience?
I've been learning how to use Open Broadcaster Software, and I have a few questions relating to actual broadcasting. The tutorials talk about 'twitch' accounts. Havn't a clue. I'm interested in doing youtube vids. How does one go about setting up vids to youtube? and are there other places / sites for hosting / broadcasting / vids I record on my PC? Appreciate advice. Thanks.... :)
I'm happy to see this. One of the wonderful things about those vids is the experiece of watching someone learn about a new game.

"Prattle in diplomacy"? I remember her as the religious fanatic. "God's will" and all that. Arg. ( My memory is exceptional. I can always remember things that never happened. ) I guess I am going to have to pull that game out again. I hope it works on Win8. I usually play
One suggestion about sharing research projects with another species. Would require they have a peace treaty in place, for at least a certain period of time. (time enough to 'trust' one another.) If trade treaties are in GalCiv3, require a long standing trade agreement as well. Now, should the two species enter into a sharing research agreement, the bonus points accrued would not necessarily have to go to the exact same tech. (We hold back some, don't we, in
Quoting Gucky13, reply 3 Since you're working on the tech tree take a look at Pandora. They have tech era like civilisation combined with a randomized tech tree. Also you an option to only see the next tech to research linked from already researched items instead of the whole tree - which i realy like. ... The randomization part is fun but it destroys the "lore" of a tech tree an example is you have to research mini
I would also like to suggest that along with galactic wonders, a new category be included; regional wonders. Some could be generic, meaning any species could build them. Others might be species specific - only the specific species could build them.
