There are a few things you could do. Give away all the stuff you were gifted to all the other races. For say money or tech. Go to each planet you were gifted and govern them to wealth so you get money. Destroy all the tiles on a planet and start over. Destroy any ship/starbase they gave you.

It is weird you get worse performance because every single game I have both options I get a 0% performance difference between the 2 so I never not do borderless anymore. I do however have an ATI card so it could be an NVidia thing. Also everything I have read about borderless window talks about how since windows vista and newer handles the hardware acceleration between games and windows is negligible.

I had the same problem after creating a ship in multiplayer which then in turn caused all games on creation to crash. I ended up deleting the new ship I created in the folder Derek Paxton mentioned above here in ..\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Designs If you noticed it crashing after something like that you could try deleting your most recent ships created. Once I deleted that "bad ship" it fixed my game and I could create a new game. Interesting thing is I

For me after I beat the 3rd map it was kind of disappointing but then I remembered that when I played galciv 2 it was not for the campaign even though I did go through them all. This game is a great sandbox game and I know it will give me 100's of hours of fun. Also knowing how stardock patches and supports the game in the future I haven no worries that most if not all of the critical bugs will be fixed in the future.
