Wow. Some of the hostility toward modding, and especially ai modding, leaves me really confused . I think support for modding is fantastic, and is one of the really positive things about the pc gaming community. Has anyone else here enjoyed and appreciated playing a mod for a game? A mod that complete strangers have poured their time, energy, and passion into, and then released free of charge? I'm not ashamed to admit that I have. Perh

Hi Frogboy, the idea to open up as much of the elemental engine to modding is a fantastic idea. We've seen some great mods grow into full commercial games over the years from the Quake / Unreal / Source modding communities so it would be lovely if a similar thing could happen for strategy gaming. Have you thought about how licencing of the Elemental engine / SDK etc might play out, or is this still a bit too early to speculate? re: python I've been using

I find it annoying when i have to alt tab to see a msg sent to me from steam instead of openning it ingame. And since the game randomly crashes when you alt tab, this is a problem.
don't try to run demigod via steam, simply run it in a window. then you dont need to alt-tab.
I agree that Sedna is one of the stronger Demigods. But her self-heal build is so overpowered compared to any minion build of hers that Yetis are nearly obsolete. So it does make sense to improve her minion tree, just for the sake of variety, not for the sake of making her even stronger.
I agree wholeheartedly with the philosophy here. If a game is offering you a choice between a number of options, they should all be inter

We have permission to talk about the game now, eh? I gave HoN a very brief try - thanks to Synapsis for the beta invite. I was expecting something similar to Demigod - inspired by DotA but with its own take on the art and maps and maybe some new or different core gameplay mechanics - but, alas, no. I started laughing when I realised they'd even cloned the map. I couldn't bring myself to even try to finish a round. Perhaps this is reactionary, superficial, unfair - but I have no desire
On the subject of random teams I think the major issue here is that it will not fix the issue if 1 out of the 6 is still significantly worse than the rest and also will make it harder to play with friends which a lot of players really enjoy doing.
Yep - I agree here that one factor is the rather small player counts of the typical demigod game, compared to other team-based competetive games. The less players you have

I think the comments by Kieron Gillen really hit the nail on the head. Here's his opening point: Spore is a four hour character creator for a polished version of Space Rangers 2. That said, I'm finding that I actually enjoy the process of progressing a wacky new race of critters up to the space stage more than I enjoy the space stage itself (although I did compl

The content / cost ratio of these micro expansions sounds disproportionately low, especially when compared to what was delivered in the original game. $10 for two new orbital structures and some turret upgrades? You're joking, right? From my point of view, this does make the "The Gamers Bill of Rights" seem a little farcical, perhaps point 3 should be altered to read: iii) Gamers shall have the right to expect to be charged at cynically high prices for any meaningful

I guess I'm not being entirely fair. Theoretical physics has developed a fair bit of interesting mathematics as a side effect, and I can hardly fault that. Going off off topic, I never really got into the GalCiv games, despite losing years of my life to Master of Orion 2.

Maybe I misinterpreted your remark about drawing a similarity between the big bang and the " 'all out of nothing' scenario". At least to me, the statement "all out of nothing" only makes some kind of sense if you assume that there is some underlying passing of time. I agree that cyclical models have a certain intuitive appeal, but our intuition is based only on prior human experience, and demonstrably fails pretty badly when it comes to physical scenarios that are well outside the real

re: Bodyless
And last but not least: if you believe in something, why cant you do it silently?
I'll have to disagree with you here - I believe the sharing of beliefs can actually be quite a positive and constructive process, as long as everyone involved has an open mind and is receptive to having their own thinking challenged. If some of your beliefs don't hold up to criticism, it's not the end of the world, it's an opportunity to revise or replace them with something

I can never be much bothered keeping up with hardware myself, but I've found the [link="http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/Gaming_Machine"]OCAU Wiki[/link] to be a somewhat handy and reasonably up-to-date-ish crutch for this kind of thing. Prices are in AUD$ (it's an australian site) & I've no idea how they compare to the UK, but presumably you'd be after essentially the same kind of hardware:

@SanChonino: your first post got a fair chuckle out of me - pity that was about the only good song from that album :/ The pseudoscience mathemagic trickery makes me sad. Chaos theory? 3*3? Quantum bloody mechanics? Let's not take precise technical concepts completely outside of their domains and `apply' them to ethics or morality. Urgh. Wow - actually managed to obtain the update. For anyone wishing to replicate my experience: * obtain a mild red wine hangover * put on the latest Portishead album * get the latest release version of Sins via Impulse * switch Impulse to 'use alternate download mechanism' and 'show pre-release versions' * obtain some chicken sandwiches * attempt to update the Sins install * profit?
