Thinking about it, I agree that the WASD *option* is preferable. I also see the problems: (1) It would affect bandwidth to some degree; there would be a little more burden on the connection with WASD. (2) It would also be the size of the replay files if input were added continuously. Both of these can be overcome, and shouldn't be considered an absolute barrier to a trial of WASD. (3) More problematic though is that I don't recall any backward motion or sideway

Thanks for the preview. I was a little worried about WAR but this gives me hope. Playing the Demigod beta has gotten me to thinking about what it would be like introduce some kind of creep mechanic in to and MMO, rather than just spawns, to keep battle raging all over the map, and to give it a bigger scale and story than you just going around and adventuring.

Of course you aren't going to have mods in ranked competitive play, that would be silly, unless everyone agrees to use the same mod, and then it might be very cool and would be the sort of optional additional fun I hope they reconsider. I'm hoping they allow customizability of the user interface though. I've grown used to that sort of thing.
Why do you need to see all the creeps when they follow a predesignated path? Not like they're sneaking up behind you. Just zoom out for that.
To see what concentrations there are and where. If, for example, one group is about to attack, you can go and assist. Or, if your opponents killed the creeps in an area and are attacking a structure on another part of the minimap, which is undefended, you could go over there t

"Minimap: Something very very light weight. Like a translucent outline of the map that shows just the Demigods. -Low-health Demigods should become fully opaque, or turn a different color, or something. -IMO, it shouldn't show creeps on the minimap. Too much clutter. We know where they are and have strat zoom. Showing Demigods is the only important information. (ADDED 5:10 PM sept05)" </blockqu

I was about to add this thread, but since it is already here, I'll chime in... [e digicons]B)[/e] Basically, the question I see is, does an RTS or an RPG control scheme better suit this game? The game designers come from an RTS background, and it is at least loosely based on DotA, which comes from an RTS, so I can see why the RTS control scheme is used. However, that is ideal for controlling armies; no RPG would use that system when it is basically a single charact

Hopefully more control customability gets added sooner than later, on a level of what we see with Sins of a Solar Empire. An "Inverse Pan" feature would be nice, since the default pan (using the middle mouse button) is the opposite of what is intuitive for me. [The paning mechanism used in Battle for Middle Earth 2 is kind of nice, where you hold down the mouse button and move the mouse slightly in the direction you want to go and it will pan slowly in that direction; move the mou

Yes, let's pass legislation guaranteeing our right to computer gaming. Wait! How about a constitutional amendment? If you think Blizzard ranks right up there with Enron, oil companies, and predatory lenders, well then, for goodness sake don't use their products!

My PS3 is pretty much just a glorified paperweight at this point. Tried playing GTAIV for two weeks and the only conclusion I came away with is that console gamers must have really low standards of fun. Haven't written the possibility off though, I might try Soul Caliber, I mean the idea of just sitting back on the couch in a stoned stupor with a game controller does sound appealing. Loved Sins, but the games run too long already on medium difficulty, and so I was afraid to crank it up to hig

Not a bitch but if a developer checks out this thread, maybe I can put a bug in their head: when the game ends, I'm rather suddenly and unceremoniously dumped out, except for one final spash screen saying I won. It would be nice if I could relish my victory a little longer, letting me look around the map after the game is over--with the game frozen, without actually returning to active play. Dawn of War does this and it's nice. It would essentially be barely any extra coding: you i

Your baitcanning and flipping and whatever reminds me of good old ganking in the pvp servers in WoW. Never did understand it. I mean if a level 40 character wants to hang out in a level 20 zone, okay, whatever floats your boat. But it seemed like a pointless waste of time to me. At least in WoW you could definitely say the F-word. Calling a girl fat would have almost definately been overlooked unless you are a stalker. Which makes me wonder how far you took it.

Okay it reads nice, and is engaging. It is well-written and moves along nicely. For posting on the internet, it improves readability if you break it up in to sections a few paragraphs long and use subheadings. Technically, it is more of a revenge tale than a hero's journey. You lost me, though, at the climax, because Charles and Christopher clearly had a history, that for the most part was left out. The motive for battle is a make or break part of the story, but we really don't have

An option for generating smaller maps (3-6 planets/asteroids) so the big cool Babylon 5 space battles can be had within an hour instead of three. That means more colonizable structures like research stations (in addition to the metal and crystal mines that already exist) to get things moving along. Also colonizable artifacts-- that you don't have to spend money and metal to find, this would add an interesting exploratory dimension, and perhaps even create a race for that "key" artifact. This

While the content of the post might have merit, the style suks, and style matters. For those who truly do find this concerning, consider the option to play on [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/307997"]Very Small Maps[/link]. Can't waste too much time building trade routes that way!

K I gave the map generator a try... but even when I just made it with a sun, and no planet groups, and two players, it was still too big. I want some *VERY* small maps. :) Seriously, the map generator seems designed for making larger maps rather than smaller ones.

6 Replies 19,522 Views

The map generator idea is cool, I should give it a go, but also random maps are fun and random small maps take more than an hour for me, upwards of two. If with the generator you can add structures and start out with colonized planets other than your home world then I shouldn't have much to complain about. I was also thinking maybe something where we could capture research stations like we colonize empty metal or crystal mines, and maybe capture artifacts floating in space too. This is just a

I've been playing from near the time Sins was released, and I think it is great, and getting better with every patch. There is basically one single reason, however, that I play the game once or twice per week, rather than every day. That is: most evenings I don't have time for a 3 hour game. Even two hours cuts in to the number of games that I play. Don't get me wrong, I love the medium maps and the slow pace of the game, but practicalities are practicalities. <
