Lucky_Jack: I turn 55 this summer. I am but a young pup to thee - I salute your Sir! :-D

Greetings! I'm Yas, short for my full user name from the Traveller universe. If you know anything about Traveller, a sci-fi RPG that hails from the late 1970s, and the Droyne, then you know who I am ;-) I am a RPG game referee and 4X game modder, I like to tinker with worlds and universes, so hence my choice of name :-D I spent a considerable amount of time modding GC II TotA, and whole races, new tech trees, new improveme
Well one thing that generally works wonders in improving opponent attitudes is having a bigger space navy. If you have decent technology, not necessarily the highest, and the biggest fleets, everyone will be "friendlier"... [e digicons];)[/e] :-) In the case of Altarians, having a respectable diplomatic reputation, and a bigger fleet should combine well to keep them neighborly. But there's more to do if you want an alliance: attack their enemy if they ask for he
Im enjoying all the bug searching, i strangely feel good when i find a bug no one else has found and then see it get fixed. Makes me feel part of the community more [e digicons]:)[/e]
That's a good approach to participating! [e digicons][/e] +1 for that :)
I suppose you can also build a few colony ships to ferry population to low pop worlds (this worked in GC2), and then if you assign another world as your new capital you avoid problems on the old home world :)
Wow!!! Very useful list! I'm a modder of GC2 that hasn't picked up GC III yet so this a great preview of xml files! Thanks very, very much [e digicons][/e]
My main concern is the terrible thought of completely screwing the game up, however, I heard that if you purchase through Steam you can simply uninstall and then reinstall the original - is that correct as far as you know?
I believe so; we create an account at Steam and buy the game. Steam records our legitimate access to the game so if ever things blow up on our PC, we can download a new installation - and, as an add
Oh yes, LeoncitoGB ! Practice with GC2 is an excellent way to gain some familiarity with xml modding, and also for learning to add basic static art. For adding pics I cropped images from Google using MS Paint and saved the art as png files using the same pixel dimensions the official game used. For xml work I used Notepad to edit copies of xml
Another idea: make it possible to create a custom race whose home world is an extreme world and thereby gain full access to that type - perhaps balanced by not being able/avoiding an opposing extreme world type, or having to research a tech to fully utilize normal worlds. Example: an aquatic species having full access to water worlds, and no access to frozen worlds. Something along those lines.
Extra art for our own improvements fully conforming to how the graphics work in the GC III game. Some extra animated leaderheads, especially humans, both male and female. An extra male Altarian would be nice - remember the blond haired warrior in GCII, "Netro Mancer"? I suck at animated graphics, so I'm hoping some material is released :)
Your reasoning is sound my friend but unfortunetly I don't have the game yet. I'm saving for a new PC build atm so its going to be at least a couple more months. However the wait is killing me so I'm spemding some of the time by planning the custom races I'm going to play as/against/share - I've got about 30 so far, but to put the cherry on them all I need to decide what home system to give them. <b
I think this is a great initiative. I myself have created created over 120 civs in Gal Civ 2 from various sources [e digicons]O:)[/e] and dozens of new improvements and wonders, and a handful of new/variant tech trees - I have fun playing with the xml! So now, once I get a new PC and buy this game I could have plenty to share. However it'll be a few months before I'm ready, unfortunately, so the most I can do now is pitch ideas and help with canon.
Fascinating read! I like the more course granularity of the AICategoryWeight you did, Brad. It makes sense to me to have distinct consistent steps in the math.
Very groovy!!! I really appreciate the updated game and new game features. As a crazy GCII modder, I think there will be much fun to be had, once I get my hands on the official GCIII release [e digicons][/e] Quick question, Brad, given the game background speaks of 2 to 3 Terran factions, will we see an updated animation of Jenna Casey for the campaign game? Perhaps variant Terran logos too? -Y.
If anyone is struggling to create star names, whether to rename systems, or mod them into the game: I found the Bayer Nomenclature System that astronomers use to be very inspirational - from a Terran's conqueror's point of view [e digicons][/e] . E.g. Vega is also known as Alpha Lyrae, "alpha" for being the brightest/most significant star in the constellation Lyrae. Since there are several stars in each constellation that we can see from Earth, it follows you
Ooo. That's a nifty update! Hopefully there will new art/scenes for each of the core races :-) I want to see Terran flags and banners on Drengi buildings! -Y
Patriotic - no approval penalty for empire size. Not to derail the thread, but this is interesting, as in the the current build there is no approval penalty for empire size for anyone.
Hmm, that means 2 things to me: one, the tool tip is in error, or two, the final release will include a discrete formula to
I am an avid modder of XML in GC2, and I really enjoyed the Super Abilities in GC2, but wished to mod them, and so the new abilities in GC3 create new customization options and challenges. That is, options for new effects and combinations, but challenges in emulating the former super abilities of yore... I'm already building custom races on a spreadsheet, and updating some favourites I made for GC2. (I made many for GC2, often based upon Traveller, Babylon 5, Star Wars, Star
Last Dev Stream we saw how we could make custom races. So, as an avid modder already toying with preliminary ideas in a spreadsheet, I have a few questions (and perhaps others will add to the list [e digicons][/e] ): Can modders modify traits? Can modders add more traits to the game? Can modders modify abilities? Can modders add more abilities to the game? Is it possible to create custom races without abilities? A
To OP: the latest Dev Stream video, Feb 13/15, shows clips where the Iridium have 6 traits and the Krynn have 7 traits (bonuses and penalties are all shown, e.g.: while the Krynn have a 2 spent for "Fertile", the Iridium have a -2 spent for "Infertile").
I second the observation. I've read somewhere here that minors will return and have more capabilities in GC3 - colonizing planets and maybe have a role as minor voting factions in the UP. Speaking of UP, it would be cool if minor races/civs could organize themselves and vote as a single block versus the individual major civilizations/races.
[e digicons]8O[/e] NOOOOOOOOOO! [e digicons]8C[/e] Raynman! Stardock! Please, please don't hard limit solar systems to just 5 planets! [e digicons]:pout:[/e]
[e digicons]:O[/e] Great Holy Detailed Analysis, DARCA! That's a LOT of work! Thanks so much for sharing -- I am learning much about the game details as you bring items up for question/discussion. Interestingly for me, it is such details observed that make me more anxious to buy the game. (I've done tons of XML modding in GC2, so my mind reels with possibilities for GC3. However, gotta play first before I tweak! LOL) Btw: good
Great Awesomeness!! [e digicons]:w00t:[/e] [e digicons]\o/[/e] "MAINTAIN COMPOSURE" [e digicons]:cylon:[/e]
Wow, what wonderful surprise to read about, and see the team! [e digicons][/e] This taskmaster - er- customer is pleased to meet y'all! [e digicons]:D[/e] [e digicons] -Y.
