I have similar issues. My two problems are the shadows and dragging config causing lockups (although I can use the transparent dragging). When a lockup occurs, it's difficult just to open up task manager to shut down WindowFX. My setup: P4 2.53ghz 512mb ddr ATI Radeon 9500 Pro
This problem will also occur if you have changed your start menu speed with any windows customizing or tweaking programs. If that's the case, you need to change the speed back to the windows default (400 miliseconds) with whatever program you used to change it. Be aware that some tweaking programs change this feature automatically for you when installed.
