Exploiting minor races was a major cheese in previous versions; it didn't add anything in terms of gameplay or strategy, it was a pure exploit that just made things easier for the player. Beats me why anybody would be unhappy it was removed, and I'm utterly confounded as to how it could 'break' the entire Crusade expansion - it's one of the improvements to the game!

Whoa, if you change your ideology to suit whatever situation you find yourself in, its not a freaking ideology! " I don't believe in murder, ever, under any circumstances, but if that guy walking down the street has a cheeseburger and I'm hungry, then I think it's fully justified and I'm OK with it". The current Ideology system is just another tech tree, and there is no reason not to grab as much of it as you can. I like the "purity' idea from a previous poster - the more choices you
IMHO you should have to choose your Ideology in the game setup - it's part of 'who' your race is, along with all the other setup options. Then during the game, making choices that match your ideology should give rewards that improve over time - boosts to morale, productivity etc - your people are pleased their leaders choices reflect the values of their race as a whole. Making a choice that goes against your race's ideology should have significant penalties - you might get those
The history of world shows that population is not a huge factor in leadership.
Disagree. That map reflects historical dominance of those nations (UK, France Spain, Portugal Netherlands et al) when they did have larger populations (and technological, cultural and political advantages) compared to the nations they colonised and conquered. And how much that dominance, though faded, is still worth today. They loot
Heres why that doesnt work that doesnt explain why big countries arent doing better than the small ones in the real world.
Really? Which small countries are doing better than China? Than the USA? In absolute and/or relative terms? Economically, politically, culturally, by every measure that matters those two are dominant. Some smaller countries might be growing their economies faster, or be
Once you fit these 'specials' on a ship, that's it, you can't transfer them to another ship. All you can do is upgrade the ship they're fitted to, so yes, it pays to be patient and pick the time (and hull size) to deploy them on.
Had that happen to multiple random ships in campaign and sandbox games; when it does happen, go through your ship/fleet list manually - I have always 'found' them there, and when selected, 'poof', they magically re-appear where they should be.
Just a couple of quirks I've noticed regarding ship movement: firstly, if I click and move a ship while zoomed out, it's slow, and jerky and somewhat irritating. If I click the same ship, and zoom in as close as possible to the destination, and click the destination then BOOM, the ship gets there pretty much instantly. But zooming in and out to avoid slow ship movement is also somewhat irritating. If I click to the next 'Idle Ship" while first ship is moving, the game hangs while
What difficulty level are you on, and what race are you playing as? Those are two key starting factors, and there is a bunch of others as well. Just from what you've written I'd say that if you've reached Large Hulls and Drone Carriers but haven't been building your production boosting economic starbases till after that point then that certainly won't have helped your progress. But there are a lot of expert players much better than me who can give you great
Just think of them as the SJW's of the Galactic Civilizations Universe; prepared to take offense and be outraged at a moment's notice, and prepared to destroy that which has offended and/or outraged them in heartbeat.
Playing Thalan on an Excessive Map, under victory conditions saw that I needed to control another 7% of the Galaxy for an influence victory. Queued up some more constructors, built more influence buildings, set completed planets to Cultural Festival, save game. On resumption; now need 13% for influence victory, and 5 turns later, even with more culture starbases/buildings complete and no expansion whatsoever from enemies or allies, it's only at 11%. I was kinda scared t
You can get any answer you want when thermometer data errors are larger than the global warming signal you are looking for.
Here's a hint: scientists "fiddle" with data all the time. Its what we do for a living. If you have many thousands of sensors, you have to correct them to have the data make any sense, and the process is non trivial. Hence, you have to reduce the data before you analyze it. The process that you use to reduce the data is public, and you can read about it in gory detail in the methods sections of the relevant papers if you want (its usu
On the middle mouse button - I only found by "accident" that if you click on an object on the map and hold the middle mouse button you can alter the plane of the galaxy and spin the map, in the same way you do for ship designer. Very cool!
The average century-on-century temperature variation during the Holocene is +/- 1 degree centigrade. If the tiny increase we have made to atmospheric CO2 (start of this century 300 parts per millions, now 400ppm, 80% plus of which is from natural carbon sources) is making any difference whatsover to the Earth's climate, it has yet to manifest itself. All the climate models (like the utterly discredited "hockey stick" show temperatures racing upwards; in reality there are minimal f
What is ideology? "A set of doctrines or beliefs that are shared by the members of a social group or that form the basis of a political, economic, or other system." Your ideology, and ideological choices, should be the shared - and consistent - 'glue' that binds your empire together, not some multi-choice lottery that lets you choose what suits on a week by week basis. Anyhow, other folk rage about tech specialistions, which don't bug me at all, but this does.
Loving the game, but finding the current iteration of the ideological traits irritating. Flipping your choices between benevolent, pragmatic and malevolent at a whim and without any noticeable consequence or penalty just seems cheesy in the extreme. Picking the options from all three traits that give you free ships ...mmm. smell that cheese! Picking an ideological trait should be part of the game set up, in the same way you pick other traits for your faction.
Great - thanks will give that a try
Hi, when I place an engine/part on any ship. it finishes up "mirrored" on the opposite side of the ship, which is often where I want to put another part, but the mirrored part (e.g an engine) is inactive - adds no mass/cost etc to the ship. When I remove it, it removes the original as well - how do I get around this or stop it from happening
So, in the infinite world of space (or nearly infinite, on Insane maps) there's an artificial limit on the number of ships you can build? I cannot imagine ever wanting to play a game under those conditions. But, I could accept something like a variant of the LEP (which still needs tweaking) - that is, each ship you build of a particular class/type costs more and has higher maintenance costs than the one you built before it. That way, if you want a massive, overwhelming fle
They are specialization trees, not generalisation trees! You have to make choices! What's next, being able to be benevolent, pragmatic and malevolent at the same time with all the bonuses? I hate that you can do this. It was discussed in another thread. I think you should have to focus on one.
Yeah, i hate it too - I think that the solution is once you start off on one 'path' such as
Has to get upwards of 80 easy - look how high GCII got on release and it was broken and unfinished. II is already deeper and better, imagine what it could be at the release of the first DLC pack...
And who says about strategy, no matter how many games you play you always choose the same thing, the best one
But this is especially true with open tech trees, no matter how big it is, how many thousands of techs, there will always be an optimal order to research everything in, or which techs in which catagory to go for first. Players figure that out, and then do that for each game. Instead of having to mak
Quoting trims2u, reply 64 For the Exclusive choice, once you pick one, that's it. The others are permanently unobtainable. [...] All the others should be a Preference choice, where all 3 options are available, but the 2nd choice is at DOUBLE the research cost of the first, and getting the 3rd option should be QUADRUPLE the cost of the 1st.</p
Yep, love it, you have to make tough choices which can have significant consequences on your future empire. Not that it doesn't need some tweeking and balancing, but this is definitely the right direction for the game. Though I fully understand those who want it all and to research everything and build everything, and I'm sure there will be mods that let them do that to their heart's content.
