given the game rules of galciv2, how would an ai, any ai, be able to counter this strategy? Well for one thing they could take out your transport ships when they see them amassing inside their space. You know, preemptive strike. I mean the moment a non ally sends tons of transports inside its space it should be regarded as an act of aggression and war should be declared and the transports should be dealt with immediately. The AI has, f

Since there are difficulty levels above painful, painful is not the highest level. Yes thank you for pointing out the obvious. I meant the highest level as in the AI plays on its best without or with cheating. Without cheating that would be tough wich then would be the "highest" level.

I'm sorry that you disagree, and I'm sorry that I said something that has gotten you so upset as to think I'm trying to belittle you, and that your best response would be personal accusations. I'm just trying to advocate what I hope to see in the game. Np, Im sorry but I overreacted to your post because I had just got a reply, regarding similar issues about mega events, from a dev saying that mega events are supposed to be "mega".

And, I'll repeat again, people beating it at the highest level are usually playing against an outright hole in the AI logic. I'd love to see someone simply explain, step by step, how they win at those high levels. Not sure what you mean with highest level. But I usually play on painful or tough and depending on my start position it's generally no problem to win. If the AI gets way ahead of my technologically, economically etc then I will lose but that h

After playing a couople of games Im more and more getting the impression that asteroids are more or less a non factor. The reason is that I can jack up my industrial output pretty good without them so I really dont need any asteroid mines. However what I do find lacking in the game is ways to boost my economy. So I think asteroids would be alot more useful if they added to your economy rather than industry. What do you think?

True to form, I'd expect a patch from SD here in a little while that addresses several of the niggling problems plaguing DA. They're good about that kind of thing, after ll. It's part of the reason most of us like 'em so much. Ok thats good but what could it hurt for them to say something like: "We are aware if the problem and we are looking into it." Rather than to say mega events are supposed to be mega, which is rather irrelevant imo.

Hm that's interesting and might explain why the AI is incapable of researching the plague if these paremeters are fixed and cannot be changed during the game. Ff that's the case then the value for the cures should atleast be 60. And if it can be changed during the game then they should be bumped to 100 as soon as the event occurs.

Well Dread Lords being weak as hell does happen in the release game, I witnessed it myself, but they giving their entire tech for peace Im not sure. In any event it does seem weird to have super mega events which more or less obliberates the AI (but not the you) and others which almost does nothing, like this one. The worst part is that the only answer Ive seen from the devs is that mega events are supposed to be "mega". Which gives me the impression that they think the events

The whole point of Mega events are to provide events that turn the galaxy on it's end (so to speak). If the cure is easily researched, or if teh AI is hardcoded to research it right away, then the event becomes nothing more then a speed bump. It slows things down, but ultimatly doesn't change things much. Yes, everyone knows mega events are MEGA bla bla. THATS NOT THE POINT! We are not idiots, we understand that mega events are "mega". Thats not a revel

I agree with you guys. If you (or the AI) culturally flip a planet with influence starbases that act should be considered very hostile and as such the relations should drop drastically. To the brink of war even. Hell even the presence of influence starbases in an empires space should be considered a huge act of aggression. Unfourtanetely this is one of many situations where the AI simply "doesnt get it". Im winning, you AI fool, you should try and stop me!

The mega-events are intended to completely change or destabilize the game--that's what makes them "mega". I think you guys are missing the point. The issue is not that they "destabilize the game" but they rather destabilize the AI as it cant handle them because the AI empires are too slow reacting on them and sometimes doesnt seem to react at al. In the example I stated above I was ranked fourth or fifth with the highest one, Korath Clan, was wa

In my game, I would have gladly sold the cure except tech trading was disallowed. I think a fix would be to give the plague cure a ridiculously high priority if the no tech trade option is selected. Even then it should have a ridiculously high priority because there is no guarantee that the one that has the cure will sell it.

I had a bit of a snafu in a beta game, once. The pop-up came up saying that the Dread Lords negotiated peace with such-and-such race, I clicked on it, and lo and behold, I was brought to a dialogue screen with the Dread Lords. I clicked on "Peace Treaty", and told them to give me all of their techs...which they gladly did. Haha, if this doesnt show that Dread Lords Mega Event is broken then I dont know what does. I mean, hasnt this been tested at all by

"Better adapt" and a free win are two completely different things. The AI is very incapable to act to mega events. I mean how hard is it to spend alot of focus on research and research one tech which takes around 5 turns to do? No, instead it does nothing and after 20+ turns the AI goes from very powerful to next to extinct. What point is there in a better AI if one mega event almost completely destroys them?

42 Replies 28,117 Views

Hey, what yas all complaining about? this event is a nice free ride to a way high metaverse score! I couldn't agree more. If all you want from this game is to get high meta verse scores then I guess that even is good. But those who actually want some kind of challenge think a "you win" event is kinda cheesy.

Is the AI significantly improved in DA? I gave up on GC2 after realizing that the AI, while still significantly better than most strategy AIs, was still making some fairly serious missteps in the planetary management (3 farms on a class 6, 9 embassies, etc etc), military strategy (endlessly unescorted transports, huge fleets parked on worlds that didn't have the fleet improvement allowing you to pick them off 1 at a time), unimproved starbases everywhere, and

I finished a couple of games during the weekends and I just say that the Mega Events doesnt seem to be very well done. On one hand they are a joke, such as when the "Dread Lords" spawns without any ships or defence whatsoever and as such are wiped out within three turns. And on the other hand they are so powerful that the AI doesnt seem to be able to handle them. Such as pirate swarms wiping out the AIs almost entire fleet or that disease that lowers production and morale of yo

Im having the same problem. Population is stuck at 2.51 on quality 4 planets. Also quality 1 or zero planets dont grow at all but are stuck 0.5.

Im in my first game and I just got toxic colonisation. But the problem is that once I colonized and started building planetary improvments, factories specifically, they have no effect as the industry output stays the same. What am I missing here?

I'm always surprised when people seem so adamant about playing people on-line in multiplayer. You are surprised that people wants greater challenge than they can get from an AI? No offence but even though the AI of this game is relatively good it is still no match for veteran players (unless it "cheats"). Also playing against a real human being is different from playing against AI algorithms. Humans are unpredictable and are capable of

If this doesnt pretty much directly address Yamota's gripe about the weaker AI races "never ganging up to take out the more powerful player" , I dont know what does. Good news buddy, you can cross that one off your list. Yes this is great news! But I couldnt possibly know about that since I just got DA and since Im at work I havent got the opportunity to explore the expansion. I cant play at work.. or can I? <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/BigSmile.gif" bord

It doesnt happen "often", but it does happen. Two races, at neutral or better relations, do not "coincidently" both declare war the same turn, right after youve started an invasion against someone else. Races in good diplomatic standing generally dont declare war on you at all, baring some diplomatic doublecross (payoff). Surely in your dreadlord games, youve gotten the Diplomatic message from someone youre one your friendly neighbors about the "growing threat" of race X, and how you should "
