Gc3 needs to be the best 4x game it can be. If they invested 6 months in TC development, that's 6 months less on 4x And you have a half baked TC system. A big no from me.

If the star port can move, moving the star bases also makes sense. How far they can move and how fast is another matter. Interesting thread so far.

I don't like the idea of entirely impassable hex's. You could have special hex's though that are quite nasty: Extremely dense dust clouds, causing very slow movement Briar patch style anomalies that cause significant ship damage Conjoined stars causing gravimetric instability between them These hex's should naturally link together to cover larger areas.
