Are you all using Vista and a wireless connection? There's a known issue where Vista polls for new wireless networks at a certain interval causing lag spikes in online games. I think I have this problem -- I've got the xfi extreme gamer, have latest drivers for it and otherwise I have a capable system (C2D 3ghz, 4 gigs ddr2 800mhz ram, 9800 gtx+ video, etc.) The /nosound switch improves performance dramatically -- it seems as if there is some type of conflict going on.
For me the change was about 8 hours ago...although it's only with custom games. The skirmish/pantheon options are still a total dead end, unfortunately.
As of this afternoon I've actually been able to connect and play a few games without TOO much hassle. I haven't changed anything on my end. The multiplayer menus seem quite a bit more responsive too (no long freezes/crashing.) I'd say overall there's been about a 50% improvement from yesterday, for me. Anyone else notice that, or maybe I'm just lucky? Maybe they did something to the servers?

Same problem, but with an Xfi card -- runs great with /nosound, but sluggish and gradually more sluggish with sound enabled. I also notice half second freezing when the announcer makes a comment or when some game event transpires -- not everytime, but enough so it's annoying. That's SP, in game. MP menus are like wading through sludge, but that's a different problem...

I've got a 3ghz C2D, 9800GTX+, 4 gigs ram, Vista Prem., and this thing runs like a dog SP or MP. The current gasoline price crisis will eventually solve itself due to the fundamental laws of economics. However, it's going to keep coming back and will probably bite harder each time. A lot of states don't want offshore drilling due to the negative impact on tourism and the fishing industry, etc. My understanding is that it would take years to see any benefit from this drilling anyway.
