I have played the Korx and done well with them. The trade techs are valuable. Can start building economic capital early without researching whole tree first. The various trade techs can be traded with all other races to acquire a variety of valuable techs-- I have generally been able to get a major jump on the other races in trading for techs. Diplomacy is important when playing Korx. I have often switched to neutral from evil race. Realy hurts if evil and United Planets votes to limit evi

There are sometimes event screens of the form. Dregin have changed philosophies. While they were once cruel, they know favor kindness... I thought these were a way of announcing the switch of ethics of a race
Putting influence bases in the middle of nowhere does not affect planet flipping, but is useful to win the game as an influence victory. When you have close to the required portion of the galaxy under your control, influence starbases, and to a lesser extent, regular starbases extend your area of influence and up the percentage used to calculate influence victory. I have added influence starbases and flipped back and forth from game screen to victories tab and watch the percentage influence go
Thalans do not get farms as far as I can see, but everything is weird about them. Also, while computer does not do this, you can place agents on farms! This is a powerful way to drive down an opponents population either to reduce economic output or make invasion easier. Each planet can be knocked back to farm output of capital(which can not be neutralized). And, since population recovers slowly, spies can move on the devestate the next planet.
I capture planets through influence a lot. Speed of planet flipping is at least partly linked to influence (global race influence plus local influence). Local influence is based on radius of typical starbase. Putting a starbase very close to planet seems to help. While I sometimes get an early defection, building up the starbase to the max(both influence and diplomatic trees) definetly helps. Unimproved starbases are useless except for range extension and calculation on galactic influence f
Like many things, range is the sum of several components as is speed. Each race has a base speed and range before addons. These can be augmented through the race abilities screen at startup. For range, add bonus from special projects that extend range if any(e.g. hyperion resupply). Add a base amount for each life support tech researched (the largest component of the researched tech is added whether or not you put any life support units on the ship). Finally there is a small addon for eac
Even red planets are useful. You have to buy everything rather than build. Population and taxes are normal. Stock markets and morale items are normal. Even research is normal. Only social and military production don't work. So red planets can be revenue generating and research generating. Just wipe out any starports and factories since those are wasteful maintenance overhead until you research the needed colony techs. I typically trade with minor races since my trade routes will not
From other games, simple target priority(target weakest/target strongest/target nearest) seems simple to implement and appealing. The problem with allowing targeting is that it makes planetary invasion difficult. In GalCiv II, I constructed very fast "Striker class" ships. These had a minimal weapon, cargo hull, maximum sensors, massive engines for speed. Their purpose was find and destroy all unarmed resources with priority to unguarded troop transports.
Skirmishes using Twilight of the Arnor Upon clicking on an ascension resource, you get the description of the item-as intended. But from that point forward, clicking on any star gives the ascention resource information instead of the standard star info. Saving, exiting and reentering the game restores star information, so this is not a critical bug, but a cosmetic issue.
I've seen a number of election losses. A variety of things can affect election results including, I suspect, a random element. If the computer is cutting it close, it may occasionally loose the "dice roll". While I often cut taxes just before an election and raise them immediately after if needed, I don't know if the computer plays such games with election results. I have won elections at below 50% approval and lost them in the high 50s. Generally over 60% approval guarantees a win. The od
Last part of campaign with little oposition--same as running under original Gal CIv II, except when try to invade Dread Lords Planet. Player has negative 21xxx of soldier capability, Dread Lords have negative Tech level on invasion screen. As a result Dreadlords suffer no casualties and always win no matter how strong the invasion force.
Using the destroy colony option in Dark Avatar seems to corrupt the table of planets causing crashes especially when double clicking on a planet or otherwise trying to access any other planet after destroying one. Frequency of crashes in current version significantly less than previous one but still exists
Found problem. Left game in a screen resolution for high def TV with 720p mode. This apparently not supported by laptop screen. Would be nice if program gave error message and reverted to a default mode rather than hang. Had to hook up back to TV, swap to laptop screen while program still live and change video resolution before shutting down. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/sd/SDC24.gif
I have similar problem sometimes. It comes and goes. Sometimes sound always breaking up. PC is quite up to date. Seems that sound operating under too low a priority. Sorry-not have a solution.
worked fine for a while. Tried external monitor(on Ferrari high end laptop). Now works only when hooked up to external monitor. Hangs with black screen at startup whenever no external monitor attached. Tried matching screen display resolution to external monitor with no effect. Tried switching to main display while game in progress--worked for remainder of game session, but not at next startup.
