I'd love to be able to use Python. It's an easy to use language and it would really motivate me to get my hands dirty with modding (don't know much about lua, but I suppose the same argument applies). Having to learn C++ in order to start modding would likely discourage me... I don't think it should be the primary language for modding. At least if you're trying to actually get as many ideas as possible flowing.

Moreover, there should be massive penalties to relations and trade etc. from destroying whole planets. There should be some kind of psychological and moral "threshold", much like using nuclear weapons in real life. maybe you could have a risk of the planet's destruction affecting other planets and systems... that'd make you think twice. In any case, the scope of the game feels diminished by leaving out the option... let's hope they add it sometime.

A ship pack sounds attractive, but $9 might by pushing it a little... it'd really have to be good. Plus: the ship designer can be a bit overwhelming as it is, so you would also have to evaluate tweaks to the interface if you keep increasing the possibilities - e.g. templates etc. At the moment the ship designer isn't strong enough technically to warrant such a big investment in artwork, even though it is a lot of fun.

That's easily proven to be incorrect. You can have spending at set to 100% and still have a positive net income, and be completely unable to "spend every bit of it", for no other reason than that the interface won't allow you to. you guys are forgetting that GC requires you to spend
