I could never really get into the civ series because they always felt pale compared to xcom, Alpha centauri & sim city/earth/etc. With that said, I hope that this is the turning point for a new page in the book. Back in the day, those sorts ofgames all had semi-credible/credible competitors in their own generes with their own takes on the general concept just like there used to be mechwarrior, starsiege (no not tribes, mech game tribes killed off), & a few others. &

While there is a lot in the op's post that I either disagree with, might not agree with, feel that he's expecting a google style"beta" or something else, his diplomacy & UP point makes me nod a bit at a few points and wonder about some things • I wonder if more of the upr's should have short/victor targeted cease fire addendums included • up has a definite tendency to be owned by one faction given time. I think that the instant leader chooses upr>e

aww http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8524487/kernels-that-run-fast-on-multicores-but-relatively-slow-on-gpu is a pretty good quick summary on what kinds of things can be offloaded,he said it a little more nuanced than "not taking advantage of" but sorta Writing parallelized multithreaded code is comparatively harder than serialized multithreaded code

That sounds unintuitive but the fact is, there’s nothing stopping a DirectX 12 enabled machine from fully running VMs on these video cards. Ask your IT manager which they’d rather do? Pop in a new video card or replace the whole box. Right now, this isn’t doable because cloud services don’t even have video cards in them typi

You would know that a lot of us think this is a bad idea. There are plenty of games with an RTS element why do you have to turn all TBS games into RTS. I know that is not exactly what you said. Galactic civilizations is to complicated of a game to make it an RTS. In order to do this you would h

I'm more of an ops guy than dev, so c++ isn't my strongest language, but I feel like I understood it decently enough to comment :). One thing that I notice is that it doesn't consider if getting to pClosestPlanet would require sending warships through $ThirdFactionSpace, that or it's part of another function. I make this commentr partly because larger galaxies mean that $A could be at war with $C e

Turn based strategy and RTS games have different needs of both UI & strategy/simulation focuses. It's taken a good 10-15 years for publishers to accept that & start accepting tbs games again after years of chanting "RTSRTSRTSRTSRTS", turning back that clock is a terrible idea akin to trying to rewrite the rule

This post got me thinking if perhaps there are actual plamet classes not grounded in copywritten trek(TM). After doing some searvhing, it turned out that... there is not quite... but there are a number of good similar things that have a great saimulation friendly naming scheme http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_potentially_habitable_exoplanets had a full listing:

Tight now on 0.61, UPResolutions.xml makes use of ResearchTag & the sole use of it in the tech tree (NonMilitary) as far as I can tell. There are a lot of ways that these could be used (events/more resolutions/etc), but with only the single tag it limits the use& gives the appearance of a much more constrictive thing and increase the likelihood that tech tree modders will carry on that way making modding anything that makes use of them more difficult to combine with other mods w
Okay, I get what you are saying. It is not dependent on a rally point if a ZOC exists. Still, if for any reason it seemed a good idea to do so, you could establish a way out rally point where you have no ZOC. The only thing that would work when it got there is a constructor (which would establish a ZOC). I suppose the question is, why would anyone want to do that? [e digicons]:)[/e]
I&#3
I was thinking of going up to 16 gigs myself from 8. Ram goes through phases of being cheap or expensive relative to supply and demand, I was wondering if people think it cheap or expensive at the minute relatively? For slower computers, as I found out in my modding experiments, one thing you can manually do is reduce the resolution of all event pictures, I am not sure if you can do this for icons etc but it might help.

Played on a large map with random density of habitable planets - the setup gave ZERO -0- planets outside of home systems as habitable. That's why it went so long.
