1) Mass Drivers. Personaly, I would remove these weapons, or at least tone them down and add similarly good one-offs to the other tech trees. As is, the species which uses Mass Drivers gets more firepower for the same research, albeit at a high cost. 2) It is supposed to cause to to spontaneously complete a research project occasioanly, rather than having to wait for your scientists to get there. However, Ive never bothered with it, the occasional boost to research dosent begin to co

Did you upgrade an entire class of ship while you were in the shipyard? In recent versions, on the higher difficulties, theres no limit to the amount of money that can cost you. Previously, it wouldnt let you get more then 2000bc in debt.

Its on Steam, if you're interested. Steam gets a lot of bad press, but the truth is, if you bother to set it up for offline mode and /or you have a fast connection, its not actually all that intrusive. You run it when you need it, and thats it. Its more annoying than SDC, because with SDC you only need it for updating and suchlike, whereas with Steam you need it to run any games you bought over it, but its nowhere near as bad as some people make it out

So .. what your saying is, you pirated the game, and it dosent live up to your expectations. You'll have to excuse us if we aren't all that concerned. Buy the game, then people might want to help you. You could post your debug.err and people will point out obvious mistakes on your part, like running ancient driver versions. Or, at need, FrogBoy himself, or one of the other developers, would interpret your debug.err and perhaps a smart exception report,

Inflluence points are used for voting in the UP, not for flipping planets. To influence flip planets, you need to project cultural influence onto them. The simplest way is to use your own planets - large populations and influence boosting projects will project more influence. But this isnt likely to flip enemy planets on its own, especialy not in other starsystems. For that, you need the influence starbase, and you need the higher tech influ

You are contradicting each other. Whom of you is correct? Unknown, unless you talk with the guy that wrote combat. The defence roll is definately 0..N, not 1..N as stated in the manual, otherwise a 1 attack ship could never kill a 1 defence ship and you'd get a never-ending combat if th

But a good first step would be to update your graphics drivers - if you dont know how, post your debug.err here and ask. Ideally, you want your graphics driver to be from 2006. If the one described in your debug.err is from before 2005, definately upgrade. (Just in case, dedug.err is a plain text file, but windows wont know that. Just tell it to open in notepad when it asks, then copy and past it here)

They have a very specific role - to enhance combat starships within there area of effect. A military starbase in non-contested territory is precisely as useful as an economy starbase with no friendly planets in its area of effect. But when on the borders or around contested worlds - they can turn the tide of any battle, especialy if you overlap their areas of effect.

Yes, they should remain available. As it is, your races ability to develop a new planet decreases as you become more advanced. Granted, it should be taking longer to bring a planet from nothing to full production as you become more advanced, but as it is, you lose the ability to get even basic production up and running in a reasonable time, unless you buy a top-end factory which you certainly arent going to do if you are strapped for cash.

2 things i'm extremely unhappy about. 1) Stardock and the having to sign on business. Can't stand it. Whatever happened to buying a game and being able to just play it with your friends ? Which brings me to point 2: Well, if you have the retail CD, you can install without the serial ke

Game killer? You have a strange definition of that term. Anyway, your pop cap should be 34.6B, which is basicaly double what you report. Strange. Can you confirm that you get this issue under 1.1b3, or at least 1.0X? Also, I seem to recall that population growth ceases below 40% morale, so its possible that this planet's population is causing enough morale penalty that it wont grow anymore.

This is a feature. The thing is, when you research a new project, say a better research center, *all* of your planets with research centers begin upgrading to the new version. With a large empire, if social production behaved the same as miliatary, that could result in your economy going for +200 to -1000. Sure, the present system does waste the money, but by eliminating that fluctuation the player is more easily able to balance the economy. In contras

If you believe a hardware mouse cursor will help , you can set it manually by editing the prefs.ini file in ~/my documents/my games/galciv2

If you have the limited edition bought in europe, you only have the collectors edition serial, beginning GC2. In that case, there is a link on the donwload page which will accept that serial and give you a serial which will let you update the game. If this isnt the case, then remember that StarDock are presently very busy, what with the release of a major game and all, but from what I've seen put more effort into customer services than most

Not necceserily, Im not sure what the core design freighter rquires but if you design your own you can send out a freighter as soon as you can built freighter modules.

Why fight the dreadlords? You can get a small attack force, invasion transports, and your three starting constructors on the way to the target before they turn up. Dont build them, buy them. When your vast treasury runs dry - tech buildings only means you have a miserable tax income - go into the domestic screen and turn spending to zero. Scrap excess ships if you are still losing too much money. Or, skip the campaign. Its not the meat of t
