Remember mines are actually sorta expensive, and take a lot more time to rebuild than scouts, so it's not really... THAT bad. Random idea, what happens when you pair flak ships with scouts? The flak might take out the mines more effectively since it has 360 degree firing, so it can react faster. ...A'course, I'd try that myself but Sins has the "decompression error" when I try to re-install it from beta entrenchment. Why doesn't stardock just release a simple utility

(regarding Firefly/reavers reference) Well on one hand it's possible since Stardock has a history of making obvious jokes about stuff based on TV shows that they've incorporated into their games (GC2 tech description: "our scientists came up with this technology by watching old Star Trek reruns"), but on the other hand Sins seem to take itself more seriously. Then again... "yarr mateys loot and plunder off the port bow" [e digicons]:hrmph:[/e] [quote who="Jm2010" rep

Sins allows you to openly support piracy ingame, I think the developers are trying to send a message. Seriously though, Impulse wasn't ready for primetime when it was released, and still isn't if my recent experiences are worth anything. I'm willing to just accept it as a work in progress but the majority of the people I talk to tried it once, couldn't install/download/update/login/etc or something and said, hell with it, I'll get it through Steam instead, then never gave Impuls

As a beta tester I had the game early, and had to uninstall it in order to get the final version. When you uninstall Entrenchment, the whole game goes with it for some reason (I think they've fixed that now). In any case, problem is this: I try to install Sins, and it says "Decompression error" or else "file larger than expected". I have rebooted Impulse, my computer, as well as deleting the Sins folder, none have any effect. I have also tried on different occasion

Certainly good expansion material. Mini campaign 0 (trainer): Trade League/Vasari first contact, you are a low-ranking junior command officer, but a promising one. You're given the task of investigating a series of distant colonies which trader ships haven't been returning from in the last few months, and lately trade the Trade League has designated the area a no-fly zone until it can be investigated, even dspite the rich resource fields to be

Haegemonia? Ha ha ha, I was their forum's administrator. Might I know you? @ hebertdp : BTW, if you're using Windows 7 BETA, and the x64 version at that, and software doesn't work, do not blame the software.

Multicore programming is still in its infancy. Most games don't take advantage of it, and those that do, only take limited advantage of it. There are some notable exceptions, like Supreme Commander, which was a really impressive feat, but by and large multicore just hasn't caught on yet. Also, it's not that the developers are just being stubborn - Sins is a *very* old game - I heard about it for the first time just a few months after HOMEWORLD 2 came out! Sure, they'

1) Banning their IP range doesn't do anything whatsoever, don't be a tard. Proxy, tor, etc... forget it. 2) Probably not possible, ToS... and heck knows he'd just blame it on some kid being on his computer. 3) See 2, also prevents the possiblity of any future sales, and since it would prevent him from using the games he bought, it would be illegal. 4) See 1. Ban one IP address, a whole range, a whole country, it doesn't matter, you just bounce yo

Ok, getting close to my bedtime but I'll try this... can't you select a shipyard, and depending on the settings you give for it, every ship that comes out of that shipyard will have the same settings? Such as, auto-join. I can't actually check at the moment because the most recent entrenchment update requires you to fully reinstall the game it seems... Are all your concerns addressed now? I'll check back tomorrow if I remember.

Too many effects makes it hard to tell what is actually going on. Was that one of your own ships exploding, or just some enemy missiles? Were those fighters that just flew by or missiles? Blizzard actually openly said that they severely overdid the effects in Warcraft 3, for instance. When they tried in-house with less fx, it was much easier to play.

Yellow text on white background is a more serious offense. I do not think it is possible for devs to ban peoples' game ID based on their ICO username at a given time - or, at least it hasn't been the case in other games I've played. Revocation of the ability to join the multiplayer lobby probably isn't in the ToS. Ban someone from chat, and they will come here and be twice as annoying to a much wider audience. It is impossible to actually block a person from pis

AAARRRGH YELLOW TEXT ON WHITE BACKGROUND, MY EYEESSSSS I don't think the devs/mods here have the power to ban someone's user key based on what their ICO username was at a given time. Just ignore him, he'll get bored. Hard to believe people have enough time on their hands to sit in the lobby spamming for hours on end - they could've made money or actually done something constructive with that time.

Are you saying you can't load 1.13 savegames in 1.14, or you can't load any savegames/replays, period, even ones made after the patch? Unlike FPSs and such, a tweak made to a strategy game will almost universally break savegames, regardless of the game or developer. If you were just playing your first or second game - start a new one. You will have to play 4 or 5 games before you really get a handle on all of the stuff.

1) Would you rather have some extra ships left behind during an attack, or a bunch of colony ships, constructors (costs as much as a cap, if you haven't got entrenchment), and other misc ships getting nuked because they joined by default? Sins succeeds because by default the various ship options are set to something SAFE, not something good for every situation. 2) Haven't noticed this myself, if it's true that's pretty unfortunate.

Rally points? Give me a little credit, I use rally points all the time. I do not, however, think it makes sense that I should have to make a rally point on a square full of enemy fleets just to get more than one ship/fleet at a time to attack them. I don't know where your first two paragraphs come from, but it doesn't matter. You're completely missing my point. Suppose I have 20 fleets on a square. Yes, it happens if you are... USING RALLY POINTS. N

Ice Cream SUNDAE, not sunday. Although I agree 100% with the rest of your post, capital ships should have flak which AT LEAST equal to a single flak frigate. It would be nice if capital ships had lots of flak guns, although still maybe only equal in effectiveness to 2-3 flak frigates. Besides the obvious gameplay improvements, it would just look SO COOL for 12+ flak guns to be shooting in every direction in the middle of a battle :D

It's a good idea in principle but I think we're on a slippery slope here... In my game development experience it is much better to tweak existing units to fill multiple roles better than to just keep adding more and more types. I understand your argument about fighters needing to be in the middle ground to prevent bombers from being completely useless, but there is always more than one solution to this sort of problem. Were I on the dev team, I'd find it.
