I lost a good week of productivty to Pirates a year or so back. Its frustratingly addictive, like anything with a Sid Meirs prefix, and Im almost never a fan of "mini-games". I want to see "Galactic Pirates" from Stardock.

You don't get charged (at least not permanently) until there's something you can actually download. So at this point a preorder is basically just a promise to buy it as soon as it's available I take it by your non-answer that its just pre loading unplayable content files then?

Another clarification. When it says pre-orders can "start getting it early", does that mean pre orders will be able to play the (non-beta) game some point prior to the 14th, or does this just refer to the typical "pre-loading"(unplayable content files) tease? I just found out there will be no epic generator anymore, and no beta access for my pre-order. It would be nice to get a little something for the vote of confidence( like being able to play a couple days early). I know, gre

All I know is this: If the AI in Dark Avatar finally starts researching Good and Evil and improved government forms, Im screwed. Ive built my entire playstyle around the fact that the GC2 AI doesnt research these, or doesnt do it ill its far too late to matter(at least on every difficulty up to and including "Crippling").

If its a "digital only" release, then what was that extra 5 bucks I paid for shipping and handling when I pre-ordered ([Edit]) nevermind, Brad answered that above...you really need to clarify that statement in the original post[edit] But why did I never get a confirmation email? (got a confirmation number at end of order, that was it).

Wow! Now that is a truly impressive list of features. Too bad I foolishly played the "gold" retail version like it was the actual game, and had my fill of single player. Give me a call when you get real Multiplayer, so I can play with my firends, and actually have a reason to pick the game up again.

Yay. More incrimental "refinements" to the interface. Evidently this game wasnt ready to release when it was. By all means, continue developing the godamn interface...people are much more interested in that then say...new playable content. Or god forbid you come out of your little realm of denial concerning real Multiplayer. Stardock has managed to squander any goodwill it had from the release of this game, by being totally and consistently out

I stopped playing GC2 a while back. Not because its bad...its a great game. But regardless of changes and improvements made, the vast majority of people can only play any single player game, even one with as much "replayability" as GC2, for so long before they move on to other games, and other things. Sorry rabid fanboys. Any further "imrpovements" or refinements to the single player game are going to be futile for the majority of players outside of residual sales of the ga

Hey Brad, since the new poll only really applies to Galciv 2 owners, wouldnt it be better to set it up through the SD client, so that only registered game owners could vote in it? Open Web polls are notoriously useless, and agenda driven ...especially for something that may play a determining factor in whether you decide to devote resources to exapanding this great game into the Multiplayer realm, for all those of us who would love to go

Hell yes Id pay for a Multiplayer expansion. But Id expect it to be a fully featured suite of MP tools. The problems in just making a alternating turn version of the SP game are pretty apparent. I would expect as much love that went into the Single player game into making the MP game a great game in its own right.

Heh...anyone been to check the Straforce corporate forums yet to see what kind of ascii raspberry blowing might be going on there? **Warning!** : This is usually about the time a company developing a bad rep starts trying to "rebrand" itself. Be on the lookout for Starforce under other names now.

49 Replies 31,588 Views

This seems to be great news. Of course, it doesnt mean anything if they just replace Starforce with some other equally intrusive DRM scheme, siphoning my resources and gummin up the works. But for the time being, I can tentaively look forward to actually purchasing HoMM5 now, which is a relief.

What things don't you like about it? Since it was written internally, I can pass on your suggestions to others. Well, like I said, I think Gc2 and Stardock are great...but you asked. Ill just note here that some of these things could be a browser issue, I suppose. But i dont like having to worry about that <img src="http://images.stard

Well, speaking as a fanboy who thinks Galciv 2 is a fantastic game well worth anyones money, and who has nothing but good things to say about stardock as a company in general...I'd be hard pressed to disagree with the Original Poster. There are good things about it, and bad things about it and the way the forums are organized in general, but there are enough bad things of significance to put it solidly into the "sucks" category. Its important though, to be ab

Frogboy, I think a lot of people are "updating" their game version with the Beta material , thinking its an official update, through the Stardock client, as its set to offer Beta versions through the "availiable updates" menu by default. I think this is just asking for trouble having beta patches availiable through the same utilitly as the official game updates. You might wish people were more savy about what they were applying to their ga

There are two parts to the panda exporter, the script and the plug in. The panda site could be a little more clear, as you encounter the download link to the script first, and may think that thats the component you need. But it will give you that "dont know how to save that file type" message if you are trying to use the script with out the plug in. This is the component you need to install: Link<

BingJack, it says quite clearly during installation "This is a beta, and liable to have bugs as such. If you don't know what a beta is, DO NOT INSTALL THIS" while giving you the option. Someone in a similar thread said that you should be required to type it out, not just click yes. Damn microsoft and their enormous service agreements have made most people stop reading thin

With effective normal mapping, you shouldnt need anywhere near that polycount to get great looking ships with smooth looking surfaces. Bear in mind the "normal" maps generated natively in pshop with the nvidia plug in are really just glorified bump maps. If you generate the Normal maps from a high resolution of the model, the smooth curves and surfaces within the silhouette will be incorporated in, and then you only need enough geometry

The latest patch is a "beta" release, not an official patch. I noticed that my SD client offered to "update" my GC game with the BETA patch as well. Evidently, by default, the client is set to offer Beta material, though you can turn it off. Stardock, this is just asking for trouble. I think many people are "updating" their games with the Beta material, thinking its a new official patch. Beta material should be clearly sequestered, and designated with a "download at your own

Lesson learned. Dont lose elections. Not only can you not initiate war, but you lose all the bonuses of your political party. Im assuming you have lost an election, because I have never not been able to initiate a war at 65 % approval, unless my party is out of power. If you have lost an election, you may need to wait til the next one to put your party back in power. If not though, there are always ways to goad someone into attacking you...try lowering your relations wit

Is a dxf file that direct x export you're talking about? Or is that a different format? In other words, if a package supports direct x export, will it just say that, or is that a specific extension, like "dxf"? ^ | What addo said above .
