Ok guys, i ran Driver Cleaner in safe mode and installed ONLY the drivers from ATI, but my computer still is not shutting down.
I already tried the uninstaller, the ATI drivers are still in the add/remove programs list. I think im going to download the drivers with out the Control Center, then run drivercleaner. Will this work, or should i download the catalyst drivers after running drivercleaner?
I recommend the DC and Corky's option since the default drivers really suck compared to the basic video drivers that are designed for your specific video card. Just skip the catalyst utilities and D/L only the actual video drivers...Unless you like working at 640 x 480 resolution. WOW, 640x480 <
I really dont want or need ATI software. After i run DriverCleaner, would windows reinstall the generic drivers that came on the system? I just ran the ATI uninstaller and after a reboot, the drivers are still in the add/remove programs list.
I guess you are wondering why i want to do this. lol After installing the ATI catalyst control center, my computer started to load really slowly when i logged on. It would also stop responding at times, and this is when the shut down problem first started. Thanks again man, i guess ill run driver cleaner.
I only have the ATI drivers left in the add/remove list. I uninstalled all other parts of the ATI software.
What ATI card, i do not want ATI's programs. I just want to clean my system of all aspects of ATI. I am happy with the generic windows drivers and i would rather use these. Thanks for the help.
Don't worry.....we won't keep bumping it for a cheap chuckle at your expense...... ....we'll make it a sticky haha go right ahead, lol. Anyway, what do you think of DriverCleaner, gary?
haha, at the other forum where I posted about this, no one even mentioned the title. I think the cause of this problem is the uninstall of my ATI software. I removed all the aspects of it in the add/remove programs list, but i cant get rid of the ATI drivers in the list. I think i am going to use DriverCleaner to try and remove them.
thanks so much guys. lol i didnt even notice that about the title. should those registry changes be safe?
IN the past my computer would freeze at the the shutdown screen occasionally, but now it happens everytime i shut it down. Does anyone know how to fix this? It hangs at the "Windows is shutting down..." screen on restarts and shutdowns. I did some research on google but i still couldnt a solution.
yea, my mom couldnt live without aol. but my system is finally back to normal!! Last night the system shut down and said there was a serious error, so i booted into safe mode and ran AVAST, spysweeper, and adaware. This morning i booted the computer up and i got a window saying windows had recovered from a serious error due to a driver. im so thankful tha
do you guys think that the installation of AOL could have anything to do with this?
I ran an AVAST scan in safemode and it did not find anything. Also, i looked for the file in safemode to rename it, but i didnt see it anywhere.
Is it safe to delete all of the index.dat files?
ok guys, i got my logfile from hijack this. what forum do i post it on?
I got avast and ran it, it didnt find anything. I think i will run it again in safemode with system restore disabled. I just read that boot page, i have never used that before. Would i just use the delete option?
yea i saw something saying that system restore actually backs up infected files, so it would not help me. thanks for the suggestions guys.
thanks for the link, but my computer does not have any of those signs of the virus. I am thinking about using system restore to go back to a system checkpoint, is this safe? do you think it would work?
Mcafee found an infected file called C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSWINDOWS.exe. My computer has started to run slowly and i need to know what to do to get rid of this. I have run adaware, spybot, and mcafee virusscan in safemode and nothing has worked. Please help me out!!
