help with LogonStudio

when you download a skin, where exactly are you storing the file?
usually once downloaded, the file must be placed into the logonstudio themes file within the logonstudio program files(windows explorer).
if you have the program installed and prefer to, you can click the logon you want to dl from wc, and then click "open" it should automaticly install it for you.

i store the files on a zip disk, but i have saved and opened the skins to the folder where the logon studio is in and still doesn't work

come on, can someone please help me with this, i tried everything and still can't figure why it doesn't load the skins. i really appreciate someone to help me on this problem.

If you'll provide a link to one of the skins you're having trouble with, I'll have a look. 

its not a skin i am having problem with, its the program itself, it won't let me load any of the skins i d/l.

Most of the time this problem is not the fault of the program, it's the way the Logons are packaged. When you open one of the downloads with your zip program, is there a single file inside? ..a logonXP file?  If so, that's the file you need to install the skin. Double-click it if your zip program allows that, or extract it to the desktop, and double-click it there....... that should install it.
If this isn't the problem, you'll need to provide more details............... such as, how are installing the skins, and where does it go wrong......... and maybe a link to one or more of the skins you're trying to use, so a person can do something troubleshooting.

ok my main problem is whenever i d/l a skin, i try to load a skin for instance the Matrix Denied. I Hit apply and nothing happens, i don't see it in the box on the left side and it seems not to load.

Open the MatrixDenied.zip file with WinZip or any Zip program. extract the Matrix Denied.logonxp file to your desktop. Then go to your desktop, and double-click the Matrix Denied.logonxp file. Be amazed!

i did, nothing happened

actually the logon studio pops up, and thats it nothing appears in the box on the left

i really need the help here, Koasati didn't really even help me at all, he told me what to do and thats it, didn't even help me and i know the LogonStudio works with some and maybe not with others, but i would like some big help with this problem if anyone can i truely appreciate it thanks

Assumption: I assume all your default logons work fine and you can switch and load them.
Solution: Okay, here's what I think is happening. It happens to me all the time. Here's how I figured it out. Sometimes, Logon Studio will not actually install the logon. It will just move the entire logon file to the directory, still zipped. Which will do nothing to install the logon. Solution: a) Open Logon Studio and click the load button. Use this button to browse to your .logonxp file. You might actually want to browse to the logon studio directory and look for the Matrix folder where you might inside find the .logonxp file. Highlight it and click open. Now, the logon should appear in your list. Highlight it and click apply. It is just better to use the load button to install the .logonxp files. The program seems to have a bug there and a few other places. But, what do you expect, its free.

ok ChasUGC thats what i always do when i load a skin, and yes i always look for the file that has the .logonxp file and it never comes up to the list, and when i hit apply nothing happens..

Then you have a conflict with logon studio somewhere on your system because this is the way Logon Studio works.

My next question would be, does the program work with the default Logons?

You also said that you have used Logons before. Does this mean that you have used other Logon Programs? Did you use these other Logon Programs on the same system that you are using now?

What operating system are you using now?

If logonstudio is intalled to the default folder which is

C:\Program Files\Wincustomize\Logonstudio

then all logons should be installed to that same folder, with the name of the folder being the name of the logon, ie if the logon is named "Aquarium" then it should be as follows

C:\Program Files\Wincustomize\Logonstudio\Aquarium

I believe that only then will it work (I have never tried installing to a different folder). If you download a file and you need to UnZip it then make certain that you unzip to a folder with the same name as the logon file.

for ChasUGC yes i have used Logons before, it was the same program that i got here, but it could have been an older version, and yes the three logons that comes with the LogonStudio work, and i am using WindowsXP.

For Stumpy, thanks, no one has said it should be in a folder with the same name as the skin, i'll try it and see if it works that way.

ok Stumpy, i have tried what you have said, with one of the skins i downloaded and still doesn't work, i don't want else to try, i did everything, even uninstall it and reinstall the program and still doing this.

Your problem makes no sense Optimissed. Because you say the other logons work. You must be doing something wrong. Or maybe there is some strange registry problem with the program for some reason. Try this. I am assuming that you are using winzip with this suggestion. Change the logonxp extension to zip. Then unzip it. The name of the logon should be on the folder. Inside the folder should be the logon files. Take that folder and move it to the same directory where the 3 existing logon theme folders reside. Now, if you did this properly, the logon should be in the list when you open logon studio. This has to work if you do it right.

You may also try to right click on the logon studio shortcut in the start menu that you are using. Go to properties, and see where that shortcut is pointing. Maybe you have two different logon studios on your hard drive. This might explain why the registry won't put the files in the proper place.
The above suggestion should fix that problem too.

ok ChasUGC maybe it doesn't make sense to you because you don't see the point i am making, the only skins i can use is what comes with the program, i didn't install the three welcome skins and i can't have anything wrong with my registry since i reformatted my hard drive 2 months ago. and i think your help from before didn't do anything to me, i know how to load and unload skins and all the stuff ya supposed to do, and everything i do, still doesn't work.. So either you just try and let someone else do the helping since you can't help me period.

Don't blame me if your system is screwed up beyond the ability to properly install a simple program. It works great for me, and hundreds of other people. And sure, attack me for trying to help you. I can guarantee you that there are no other solutions as this is the way the program is suppose to work. The problem lies with your computer or the person behind the keyboard. A little harsh to accept maybe, but that's it. Sorry. Good Luck.

That's a great attitude you have towards people trying to help you. I wouldn't expect much more help in the future. You don't want to answer questions when ask, you just want someone to fix it, and then you're rude when that person can't guess what you're doing on your end. and btw.... 2 months is plenty of time to screw up the Registry.... it only takes a second.
