1.8 Hot patch #3 (Released 6/28)

Hello,

We've identified the core issue behind the recent slow-downs and stuck turns.  

Change log

  • Fixed a problem where certain combinations of game events and settings would cause slowdowns and stuck turns (looking at you, space pirates!) 
  • This same fix also improves general performance on large maps with lots of factions, stars, etc.
  • Fixed a space monster stuck turn issue in the Rise of the Terran campaign.
  • Addressed a data problem that sometimes prevented the first mission of the Rise of the Terran campaign from starting correctly.

I tried this now on a game that constantly crashed and it seems to be working now. I will keep playing a couple of hours more and I will let you know the result later. Thanks for your very quick action and resolution.

Played all day on it and that nasty freeze bug is a gonna.  Thanks for the quick fix, SD!

Constant and consistent freezing on my end here. Thought it was a hardware problem so I upgraded with an additional stick of 8 GB RAM for 16 GB total. Issue still persists. Have verified integrity of game cache on Steam as well. Also opted-in for this hot-fix, problem still persists. 

 

Any thoughts on what I should do?

I have had no crashes at all.  Game is stable and plays far faster now. 

 

TBB51>>> Validate all your files if you have not already done so. Re install your vid card driver (DL the latest) if you have not tried this. 

 

If you are crashing still I would no trouble shoot your hardware. The first thing I think is it could be a faulty memory. DL and run Memtest. Its free and it will find any issues you may have on your memory. This is my first choice.

 

Next is pull out your vid card and if possible borrow a friends and put it in and see if it runs. You may have issues with your vid card. This is the easiest way to diagnose that. Just swap it with another one and see if you get stability. 

 

last is the hardest to find which could be a fault in your mother board. This is usually not the case but could happen. 

 

I wish I had easier answers for you. The memory problem happened to me (same crashing symptom)  and I had very good ram from Corsair. As soon as I ran mem test (its about a 12 hour test), it found the bad sectors and ran it again, Corsair replaced my memory for free.

Unfortunately, this new patch hasn't sorted the issue for me. Tried hotfixing and also verifying to no gain.

 

It started off fine. I'm up to turn 70-odd, and now I can't manage three turns without the whole thing falling over. Not to mention it takes ages to load up initially (ok, insane spiral with 40-odd factions).

 

Ok so I have a few race mods on the go but afaik nothing really gameplay-intense other than the number of other races. Is there an upper limit on the number the game can handle?

Yes the upper limit on number of races is like 75 or so plus minors. There are few here that play on abundant+Insane+Max ai, they can get easily into turn 300 or 400. I play on those settings but have my habitable planets on uncommon or rare.

[updated 6/27] Fixed a space monster stuck turn issue in the Rise of the Terran campaign.

 

THIS fixed my lock up, had to start a new game but it worked!   Thanks

How do GOG users get this patch? Since the update I can't start any new games without early game freezing on and map size/combination. The latest patch available in GOG is Patch 1.80 hotfix (22nd June 2016). Are there external downloads available?

I think I have the opt-in update installed, it says [opt-in update] next to the title in the steam library window, and I flushed Steam to make sure.  I still get random turn hangs, probably from the space pirates, as it even happened after turn one. Any suggestions?

During one of my turn hangs, I began clicking on a few of my fleets, and I noticed that one fleet that I had "passed", it let me move, and then it immediately cycled through the turn completion.
